Hi all, a bit new around here but have had a 2005 987
Boxster S
for a few years. Guards Red, love it! We've had some issues with the drains, and recently in heavy rain the drains seem to have backed up and caused an ECU failure (windows going up and down, lights flashing, alarm going off, etc.). We had the dealer deduce that it was rear drain overflow, so they cleared the drains, replaced the ECU (under seat), dried it out, and all was okay - or so we thought.
About a week later, I took the car out and after a brief spin tried to raise the top. It only went up about half way. It seemed to be getting hung up on something, but I couldn't tell what it was. The motor was engaging as normal, but then it just stopped. The instrument panel didn't give the usual message of "top not in limit pos" It was late at night (I was in a parking garage), so I left the car and drove it back to the dealer (top down) the
next
day.
This is where it gets interesting. The dealer (same place we serviced it before) said that this time there was a wet area in the front of the cabin (not the rear, as before). They claimed they could not find the cause of the leak. They claimed it was "very heavy rain" that was not normal and caused it to flood, again. We didn't buy this explanation, and I suspect that they didn't clean the drains properly the first time when they did those repairs the first time around (a week before, or so). They said that they tried to simulate the flooding with a hose pouring water on the car for "a long time", but couldn't re-create the leakage. In the end,
Has anyone else experienced this "phantom leak" issue? We keep the car outside in the driveway during the summer and haven't had this issue before... even with heavy rain and thunderstorms. Any help would be much appreciated! The top-raising issue was super annoying as it effectively stranded me that night, and ECU replacement repairs are no joke - very expensive.
I did experienced some water on the front carpet this weekend when I went to the beach. I realized that was condensation from the foot vents as the top was down and the A/C was on for the whole trip and very hot outside, so water forms at the vents and drip on the carpet. Hope is as easy as that for you too. There is no water on mine if I have the top up.
Hi
Was this ever solved?
Currently experiencing an almost identical issue myself
