I was quite happy buying the 3.4 2001 as it fitted my budget even after reading the various forums on the engine problems.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm currently looking at changing my 1999 3.4 C4 for a facelift 3.6 C4S. One independent dealer has told me he is reluctant to take 3.4's in part exchange because they're hanging around on his forecourt unlike 3.6's which are selling easily. In fact he said 3.4's are 'bad news'. Is this just sales talk to reduce my p/x value expectations or is it reality?

POST 2Original post

Was it RSJ in Slough? I believe he had a bad experience with a 3.4 he sold a while ago, but from what I read he got the thin end of the wedge. I wish I could remember where I read it - Pistonheads perhaps?

POST 4Original post

He got taken to court for an engine replacement and lost....badly....not really his fault tho. He has a good reputation and is usually very competitive on prices.

POST 5Original post

Bought a 3.4 from RSJ nearly three years ago. No complaints (except I couldn't afford the Turbo he had in at the time).

POST 6Original post

Yes, it was on PH - about 10 to 20 pages of it I seem to remember.

POST 7Original post

I was quite happy buying the 3.4 2001 as it fitted my budget even after reading the various forums on the engine problems. I decided it was just luck of the draw if it went, so have bought warrenty just in case. Sue
