A shout out to 9XX motors! Thank you for all of your help getting my car back on the road. I have a clean 2006
Porsche Cayman S
. 36000 miles when the problem cropped up. I was in a corner pulling 5000 rpm when the Xmas lights all went off(dash warning lights)! I pulled over and waited for the tow truck.
I sent the car to the local
Porsche
stealer ship. They were worthless. They started just swapping parts. Never truly diagnosing the problem. Over two grand later the car still had the problem.
I had the car towed to Dennis Sherman auto. A great resource for
Porsche
car repair. They charged me 1100 hundred dollars less than the dealer wanted to find the fault of the car. The fault? Not the internet overblown IMS bearing! I had no compression in the #6 cylinder.
Ray from Dennis Sherman suggested I take the car to 9xx motors for repair. Due to the motor having to come out and motor disassembly. I did just that. 9Xx motors took the car and disassembled the motor. What they found was a first for them. Some knuckleheads had put the exhaust gasket in backwards. And upside down. Impossible unless you cut locator tabs. Three backs of exhaust ports were partially blocked by the gasket.
Over time material fatigue and a piece went into the motor. It got lodged between the #6 intake and exhaust valves. So bent valves. 9Xx motors suggested a full rebuild. I agreed. So full rebuild, new valve guides, and other top end improvements. New clutch and oil cooler, plus any other reliability upgrades suggested.
The car runs great now. Jason at 9XX motors was great to deal with. His partner was also wonderful and both seem to be genuinely nice people. The work seems to be done well and they stand behind the work they do. Thank you 9XX motors and Dennis Sherman automotive for all your help.
The
Porsche
dealer not so much love. You guys suck. They did a rev report to prove I had abused the car. I had 1 over rev stage 4, 1 in stage 5, and one in stage six. Per multiple experts this would be impossible. Some sort of error. They have seen this on other cars and it was not accurate. You cannot have a single overrev is what I was told. The experts that looked at my car said I had one of the cleanest rev reports they had seen for an 06.
Porsche
said I was at fault and they would never accept a car with my Rev report. The cause was not an overrev as the dealer was insinuating. It was an improperly installed exhaust gasket.
Don’t be afraid to get a second opinion!
