I have tried using the key in the door lock to raise and lower windows but this does not work.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all I have a New Zealand 2004 C2 996 cabriolet and a few days ago both the windows and convertible roof began to close automatically every time the key is taken out of the ignition lock. If the convertible roof is closed the windows will close if open . Have searched both the manual and online forums but cannot find the answer. I'm sure it's something to do with the comfort settings but not sure how to change. I have tried using the key in the door lock to raise and lower windows but this does not work. Its very annoying and would love to switch off. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with it but about a week before this problem occurred I had taken the hardtop off. Much appreciation for anyone who can help Cheers Giles.
very odd, I would guess the likely suspect is the dash switch which might be stuck to the "close" position
easy swap and to then see what happens

otherwise is the handbrake engaged when this happens ?
Yes that was a good point. The roof is still closing with both the car in gear and the handbrake off so clearly it's a fault of some kind. Off to workshop on Monday
a bit more but quite simple, just lever off the plastic surround slowly then unscrew the mounting either side.
Access is then straight forward to swap the switch.
Deffo not the switch. The switch will only operate with the ignition on. Sounds to me something more like your door lock switch stuck in the closed position or your alarm ECU. To over ride this short term the only option I can envisage is to not put your handbrake on when you stop. The roof can only operate when the handbrake is engaged. OK if the car is a tiptronic as you can leave it in park but not so good on a manual but still doable.
Also, as a safety feature, the roof will never operate unless either the button is pressed on the dash, the key is actuating the switch in the door lock or the key fob is pressed. It has to be like this for safety reasons - that roof or clamshell can do some serious harm to someone if it operates on its own.
Just noticed your comment about operating with the handbrake off. Sounds like the roof ECU is at fault to me. Its in a box next to the roll hoop under the rear parcel shelf. Disconnect it and see if it stops doing the roof drop.
This has already been answered by Alex but yes i consider it to be the car thinks the key is in the door lock and turned to the closed position .. in other words comfort closing via the key barrel .
This will override handbrake on or off as its a locking function and not an operating function of the roof .This is why the windows also close .. comfort closing .
I'm not aware that this can be coded off but even so .. you need to check the door barrel function first .
