I guess another option is keep the OEM metal lid and just replace the electric spoiler .

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey guys a general question . For any of you that have replaced the factory metal engine lid with aftermarket fiberglass/FRP/carbon fiber how well do they hold up ? I am wondering specifically the latch area . Do they eventually crack from the stress of repeated opening and closing ? I am planning on adding a duck or taco rear wing and unless I get lucky and find OEM then I will have to go with aftermarket . And I think all aftermarket are some kind of composite . So is cracking an issue ? Or is the aftermarket stuff strong enough ? My car is a 99 C4 . I guess another option is keep the OEM metal lid and just replace the electric spoiler . The duck spoilers I have seen online in that application look too narrow in width . But there are some wing style that look pretty good . Thoughts on that ? This is mostly for looks , I don't do track events just mountain carving . Feedback appreciated .

POST 2Original post

Mine is pretty durable. No crack in my MAShaw taco that I had for a couple of years and 10s of thousands of miles. I now have a used GT3RS wing and it had a couple of small stress cracks. My body shop fixed them and repainted. I‘ve had it for at least a year, but due to COVID, only about 3000 miles.

Just got my Getty decklid. I would give it a 5 on quality but thats the way it is with "race" car parts. Im sure it will function fine. I dont really worry about the latch, ait is always forcing it down. A cf hood would be a different story. Some pics showing fitment.
