Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

When I was installing the X51 I noticed a small puddle of oil on the top of the engine. Apparently this is supposed to do this. I contacted porsche and they said that when you turn the steering wheel with the car off it causes the power steering fluid to drip out of the overflow and it is aimed at the top of the engine. One of the techs said it can be rerouted, looks like I will have to do that, maybe an oil catch can like turbo vehicles use. Just wanted to let you know this IS normal.

POST 3Original post

maybe if we get enough people we can get a recall or have porsche install a catch can.

POST 4Original post

I have a stock original owner 987.1CS, and I just discovered this thread after describing the exact same messy situation on my car elsewhere on the site. Good to know the vent hose extension plan doesn't work... saves time. I'll go with a catch-can. The ideal plan would be to somehow re-route the escaping fluid right back into the reservoir (great, just add another failure prone AOS). lol.
