Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

On all 996 with factory fitted center rad that didn't have the top cut outs the air exited the rad downwards.

Leading evidence: 'Install center rad' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'its ment' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Install center rad' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Working on oil and water cooling and want to make sure I dont have to replace my 996.2 bumper other than opening up the front with a dremel.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Looks good man! Question, do you track it. If so, have you had any problems with air flow with the open front bumper and without the open holes on the top of the Bumper?
Yes, the factory Aerokit bumper(or GT3 bumper) is fine at speeds over 140 MPH.
There‘s no need to cut a top Vent like an RS bumper.
The top vent allows better airflow for the radiator, but the bumper doesn’t need it.
YMMV with an aftermarket fiberglass or FRP bumper.
I’d suggest a front splitter(I prefer the cup car due to its flexibility on the street) and a rear wing.
Good suspension and good tires(most important) is important at triple digit speeds.
On a smooth surface my car feels great at 140+.
Hoping to see 160MPH at the Texas Mile in 2023. (engine rebuild will be during 2022 Texas Mile Fall Event)
Not sure which wing I‘ll be running.
I‘ve got lots of time to think about it.
Good feedback gentlemen. Working on oil and water cooling and want to make sure I dont have to replace my 996.2 bumper other than opening up the front with a dremel.
I worry about too much airflow pressure on the front bumper as I go from 125 to 145 from removing the center piece on the bumper as it flows past the 3rd radiator.
Any additional feedback will be happily welcomed.
The cut outs would require a chimney to achieve the intended effect which is reducing front lift.
On all 996 with factory fitted center rad that didn't have the top cut outs the air exited the rad downwards.
Since all those where able to drive up to 155mph I'd say you're fine.
If you care to spend the money and benefit from less front lift, then you'd need to get all the parts the 996 gt3rs used.
I am curious about the top vent . If you have a center radiator that currently vents to the bottom , then add the top vent only with no additional duct work are there any negatives ? Yes I understand you won't get the full extent of the design but would it hurt cooling ? Or high speed stability ?
In my simple DIY mind 😋 as you are flying along at 140+ the air through the center radiator will escape via the path of least resistance . So I " think " but don't know that means some out the bottom and some out the top . Thoughts ?
What Zbomb said. There is supposed to be a duct behind the center radiator that feeds the air out through the bottom. When installing the chimney there is a different duct that feeds the air out of the chimney.
The under-car exit radiator is tilted bottom forward to make room for the under-car exit duct while the chimney radiator is tilted top forward to make room for the chimney duct.
The 996 Turbo runs the under-car exit duct and can do 195 mph so it must be OK.
An interesting fact is that the non turbos including the gt3 did not get the panel/duct that the turbo got to direct the air flow down. U can buy it off the turbo pet and add it. All aero bumpers have the vents on the bottom not sure about a standard bumper.
If u want an above bumper exit for down force. U have to buy the cup parts. The center rad syatem not including the rad is well north $1k. I just bought the chimney duct for may car for about $160 and im gonna mod the rest if the parts to make it work. Ill post a pic or 2 here but it will mostly be in my motor swap thread.

Temp fitted so i can work out the hardware. I suspect its ment to go with a turbo bumper and air ducts. I thunk im gonna have to flip the rad too so the ports r at the bottom
I don't know if the Turbo guys flip the rad when changing to the GT2 setup. I do know that the hoses are too short to tilt the rad the way it needs to go. Some guys cut & splice the hoses, some guys found a 997 hose that can be cut to fit. The bumper beam needs to be spaced forward which might be only if you're using the GT2 front bumper, I can't remember.
Also since you are starting with a Mk1 might be even more different.
Yea im almost done setting it up. The drivers side hose is fine, pass side will need to be extended a few inches. So far the modification is not that hard. Went to lowes and bought a bunch of spasers and figurrd out what worked. I have to get my bumper back from paint before i figure out the rubber boot in front. Also since i cant use the mk2 bumper vent ill have to make a gasket for ducting out the top.
