I have the cable disconnected from the brake shoes, but can't see how to separate it from the back of the hub so I can pull the hub off the car.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello - in the process of removing the rear hub due to stripped threads for the calliper bolts. How do you remove the handbrake cable from the hub? I have the cable disconnected from the brake shoes, but can't see how to separate it from the back of the hub so I can pull the hub off the car. Appreciate any advise - thank you.

POST 2Original post

There is a tube that comes out the back of the hub. This should just slide out the back of the hub but seizes in it. The cable goes in to the back of the tube, but this also seize in the end of the tube. They should all come apart easily in a perfect world, but in the real one you may struggle and end up destroying that tube. This old thread of mine may help (found by using the search function at the top right): Handbrake cable replacement - How to. One of mine snapped yesterday, so a new one was delivered today ready for me to fit. What a ball ache of a job that was! Least removing the old one was. Fitting the new one was reasonably easy. First off - many thanks to Demort for giving me a few pointers. Anyway, thought I'd just add a... 911uk.com

POST 3Original post

There is a pin that you slide out from the cam parts, it could be corroded and may not push out easily but a few wiggles and some WD might help?

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Alex. I could see the tube and I thought it must come out having looked at the parts drawing. As you indicated, mine is stuck fast. I have the hub loose in the wheel arch so planning to drill in situ now I can angel it outwards.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Infrasilver - my pin just fell out, so no issues with that bit thankfully.

POST 6Original post

You can get a small screwdriver in from the front and tap it out.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ah OK - thanks berni29. I am planning to complete this job today so will try that option first. Otherwise it will be drill and helicoil in situ.
