The pre owner confirmed it was only the radiator that was replaced so its bound to be the bracket.

Silly question but can you confirm the rim and tyre width you're running on the fronts...?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Everyone. I am glad to say I am the new owner of a 911 996, 2000 cab model and here for some general chit chat and advice. As expected I have a few issues that need resolving/ improving. I currently have my 18 inch wheels rubbing against the wheel arch liner which has gradually gotten worse. There is now a great big hole in each of the fronts so the car is off the road until I fix or replace them. My first question is. How do I know whether I need a part for 996.1 or 996.2? My second question is what would be the likely cause? The previous owner didn't have this issue although I do know that the car did have the radiator replaced. My observations are that its potentially the bracket not refitted correctly and holding teh wheel arch liner up to 10mm off position. My second guess is that I've been driving it hard and may need some spacers. I'm not unfamiliar around a car but set up is not really my thing, (i've never done it before). How do I go about setting this car up properly and where do I start to learn?

POST 2Original post

That front bumper might be a prime candidate for peculiar wheel arch rubbing. The angle of the photo might not help, but your front wheel looks to be quite close to the front of the arch. Probably worth getting your geo checked to rule out anything being out of alignment. It’s clearly been lowered, or the suspension is shot somewhere. Find out what has been done, some background info would be useful before you start.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Ghostrider. That's a good observation regarding the front wheel I couldn't tell. Sounds like i need to message the previous owner for some info. How do i check the geometry myself? Any ideas what it should be?

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Dont know if this image/ angle helps

POST 5Original post

Take it into your local tyre fitter that has a wheel alignment machine, they normally charge about £30 to check it - from there you’ll get an idea of whether it’s out and if so where, and by how much.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Its rubbing at the front middle from outside of tyre would be my best guess

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Didn't think about taking it to a wheel alignment garage, dooh, lol. Thanks.

POST 8Original post

Silly question but can you confirm the rim and tyre width you're running on the fronts...?

POST 9Original post

I have a similar issue, but only on the right side and only at the very bottom of the wheel liner. I think it's due to the radiator support, but I need to take the liner our to investigate. I've also just had new suspension fitted and on the right side I needed new lower control arms as well due to worn / sagging bushes, so those may have been the culprit. The liners are not cheap to replace!

Its 18 inch. Tyre spec i'll send when I get home thanks

my initial thought was the support bracket may be a bit bent out of shape and was ready to simply manipulate it a bit to get the wheel arch liner to fit better. I bought some tiger tape to plug the hole temp and trial. If that works then i'll replace them. Your right they are not cheap which is why I'm keen to get to the bottom of it all before I ruin another set

POST 12Original post

I would suggest getting the alingment checked as it's best to be safe. If that doesn't show up anything then there's a chance the wheel arch liners don't fit correctly. I can't quite remember how they fit but if a new bumper has been fitted then there's a chance it's not been put back together correctly. good luck

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks. The pre owner confirmed it was only the radiator that was replaced so its bound to be the bracket. I'll get the wheel alignment done that's a great idea. That's a great colour of Porsche btw.

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Does anyone have the part number for a new wheel arch liner to hand?

I was referring to wheel width, 235mm.... was eluding to the fact that perhaps a wider tyre had been fitted seeing as both are rubbing..>?
