Hey fellow Porschefiles. After searching multiple forums and clear bra manufacturer websites to no avail, I decided to brave a "paint correction" process on my Basalt Black 2013 C4S, including the entire front end (everything forward of the doors) which is covered in clear bra. The entire car had swirls and light scratches and on black, they looked horrible when you get within 10ft. I had to do something. Having done a lot of paint correction work on my cars over the years, I wasn't all that concerned with the doors back, but the clear bra gave me great pause. I had no idea how it would react... would I end up having to peal it all off??? I was able to find a number of individual comments in my research, but they were divided between "do it," and "don't do it!" I finally dedided to act.
I've been a long term user of Griots products, so I went with
BOSS Correcting Cream
followed by
BOSS Finishing Cream
. Armed with a couple beers and a heap of courage, I started with a thorough wash (2 bucket), followed by a clay bar decontamination. Wiping the sweat from my brow, I began with the driver's side front panel. To my surprise, it worked incredibly well! I did about 3-4 passes, wiped it off and followed up with 3-4 more... WOW!!! It looked absolutely incredible! I was so excited after checking it over with an LED light. It looked like brand new paint!! Four days later, I had finished every inch of the car. I couldn't believe it turned out so well. The clear bra responded just like the paint. The entire car's paint looks showroom new. I kid you not!
So... for all those unsure or even outright fearful of whether to attempt to remove swirls and scratches from clear bra, go for it!!! And I highly recommend Griots BOSS collection of creams... oh, and your favorite brew. You will not be disappointed!
This is one of those "try in an inconspicuous location first.." sorta things. It might give me something to amuse myself with while stuck in the house. Time to dig out the Porter-Cable and put the heat on in the garage..
Ha! That's the spirit Don! It's a scary thing to do and admittedly I first tried it in a less conspicuous area for that reason. Best wishes!
@Ttenned
good work, it is always rewarding to get through the project and be happy with the results!
So I am curious as to the brand name of PPF on the car as well as the exact type, like Xpel Ultimate or 3M 948Pro? Some of these films are self healing others are not, it would be beneficial to know what you were working on.
Cheers!
Great question Westcoaster. I should have thought to include in my original post the fact that I don't know which type of
PPF
I have. I purchased the car as a lease return and it was installed when I got it. I do know it was installed by a very reputable shop (ClearAutoBraLLC) out of St Louis. I have considered contacting them to see fi they still have record of it, but just haven't done it. I will do that and include in a future post. Cheers!
You picked the right car to this on. Black always look tremendous after paint correction. It also takes the most work.
Given current conditions it's a great to give her some love; either type.
I wouldn't use anything but
Xpel
Finish with
Xpel
Ceramic Pro if you didn't already
