Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
Not sure I'd go out of my way to fit one on a standard car unless you've a reason to change the existing one.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Does anyone know if the 3.8 997 larger heat exchanger/oil cooler will fit on top of the 996 engine?
I have been searching for the answer and found that one person had said it won't fit, but when I have looked at pictures of the rear of the 996 M96 engine there seems to be loads of room above the standard heat exchanger and I am looking to change mine out and hoped to buy the 3.8 one instead of the 3.6 one? I think the fittings and coolant/oil holes are all the same though?
I think it's about an inch taller, mb a little less. Pic half way down ish on my thread here:

Thanks, I found your picture eventually, search was not working correctly. I guessed it was around 20mm taller which shouldn't cause an issue with clearance so I ordered one last night.
Makes sense to have the larger one for our 3.9's, if Porsche are thinking it's worth doing for thier 3.8?
I'm considering swapping the original one for this slightly bigger cooler - but will it really make a difference (on a stock 3.6L)?
It's quite a laborious task without dropping te engine and an additional cost when dropping it.
I'm probably going to make this happen at some point anyway, now I'm just trying to find out if it's worth forcing that job now, or just wait till something else comes out that would require dropping the engine...
In the summer on track an uprated oil cooler is a useful mod!
For the road only, what problem are you trying to solve?
If you just want to drop oil temp a bit then a LTT will give you -10 celcius under normal conditions, and easy enough to fit.
Thanks guys.
To answer your questions - I'm not solving any problem really, I just like to make useful-yet-not-demanding upgrades if possible - like I did with fitting X51 oil pan
just to make the car tiny bit better or slightly more reliable.
I guess I won't push that upgrade - I'll do it when the opportunity arises though.
