I think I also need to research replacing the Y-cable.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi All - just had a great weekend at the track, car ran great for three days, no issues at all. After my last session, the car sat as I packed up the SUV, and hooked up the trailer. When I went to start the car to load it, it would not start. Cranked great, just would not catch.
When I got home about 3 hours later, I tried to start it before I pushed it off the trailer and it started right up, but made almost a quacking noise for a second. When I shut it down, it made the same noise again. I started it and shut it down one more time, and it made the noise again.
A month ago, I was at another event, and the same thing happened. At the time I was also working on the AOS, and I thought one of the vacuum lines was loose, once I secured it better, it started right up. But now that the no start has happened again, I wonder if the AOS had nothing to do with it.
Thoughts?
99 Coupe - Engine is stock.
Sounds like the starter solenoid is basically dead.
I'm starting to get that starter screech that the guy above me posted. Only happens occasionally, so a new starter is on my list of things to do soon.
My go-to for any no-start issue is to first unplug the MAFS, then try to start it.
Based on what you described, I have had issues like you described when I had either a major vacuum leak or the idle air control valve was stuck.
I second this, most likely a duck
could also have been sucked into one of the air intakes on the bumper. if it sounds like a duck and quacks like a duck.....
I've never had a duck in the frunk, but I have had a stuck cat in the back. She was sitting on the spare tire as we road to the store. She howled all the way there and I thought we were having some kind of weird engine trouble. Got out and look underneath and there she was looking all traumatized. haha
Next time it quacks open the fuel door and put your finger over the hole in the vent grommet to see if that stops it.
If so it is either the purge valve at the throttle or the vent valve at the filler neck. My bet is purge valve.
You guys crack me up... An easy one is have you tried taking the belt off and starting? Something like a stuck pulley comes to mind with rubbing noises.
The purge valve sticking open would make hot starts hard. IE after refueling. Cold start not so much. Search the forum for purge valve or no hot start threads.

, thank you for your post and video. My car just started making this exact same sound. See attached .mov file. What was your issue with this sound?
ALL
: From searches it sounds like a starter solenoid that's not retracting correctly. Let me know if I should be barking up another tree. I've had slow-cranking issues for some time now (years) which also points to starter issues. Starter replacement seems easy enough. I think I also need to research replacing the Y-cable. What else to do "while I'm in there?" (Bummer: I just had everything apart the other day to do the corrugated AOS vent cable . Too bad the starter didn't start quacking before that!)
Re: starter: I've read recommendations for this bosch starter. Price is not terrible. Opinions?

Re: Y-cable: I see the porsche Y-cable available at various places for prices that aren't too terrible, so I think I've got that figured out.
Other bits to do?
