If not, and it isn't changing gear, it sounds almost like a torque converter locking up.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, can anyone help me I have a Porsche Carrera 911 996 and at about 50 miles an hour my revs drop like it’s changing gear without any gears changing. Does anyone know why this does that? Thank you

POST 2Original post

Very odd, there a few factors that can cause Revs to drop / fluctuate - a worn-out plug or coil pack - a fuel pump that isn't delivering consistent pressure - a dirty fuel filter - a dirty or bad MAF sensor etc You need a OBD-II scanner or Durametric to check for diagnostic codes, i would guess a fueling issue of sorts....

POST 3Original post

What gearbox is it? You say the revs drop at 50mph, is this accompanied by a change in speed? If not, and it isn't changing gear, it sounds almost like a torque converter locking up. MC
