Replacement was pretty easy - 2.5 hours (because Im slow, I used loctite, cleaned stuff up).

I had leaking rams that I replaced, and then I had my top replaced by Riggs Brothers.

Im not sure how to remove just that piece, or if I have to replace the whole assembly.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

I bought a curved extension for my driver and that worked just ok.

Im not sure how to remove just that piece, or if I have to replace the whole assembly. I see only the assembly for sale online.

Mine broke in the same spot. Paid $75 at a porsche salvage yard for a decent, not great, replacement. I only have 23k miles so i would have liked a better one but its not like picking vegetables. it is a relatively straightforward replacement. Your plastic flap is technically a separate part. it is a little difficult to finagle out, there is a tab toward the back that requires you to pull pretty solidly to dislodge it. If you buy a replacement w/ a good flap (which you should try to do if possible), you can perhaps sell your flap for $40-50 on Ebay.
It attaches to the clamshell with only two nuts and it attaches to the vehicle with one bolt and two nuts. You will have to pull out the deck lid motor connection on that side using two torx screws that are hard to access. I bought a curved extension for my driver and that worked just ok. A deeper torx bit would have been the right call and then you could just used a ratchet. You will need to pay attention to how the motor hooks up to the clamshell but this is not difficult. I suggest taking pictures as you go.
In the early 99s, there was a spring loaded clip attaching to that broken arm. In the manual, there is a service bulletin number 61 01 19 that shows them cutting off one of those pins with special tool and replacing the pin. I haven't gotten there w/ mine yet.
I strongly suggest getting it fixed. I did not and it may have contributed to other broken parts. Ultimately, I ended up with a huge problem.
Great info, thanks. There is the replacement hinge on Ebay:

. Is this without the flap? And this one has the flap, is that correct:

It turns out, the flap on my car on the side that's broken is also loose, so yeah, I was thinking of getting the flap anyway.
I've read somewhere that the rear window regulator needs to come out, but did you need to do that on your car?
What year is your car?
Be sure to figure out WHY it snapped. Mine broke because of an issue with the mechanism that drives the clamshell.

Right. I had leaking rams that I replaced, and then I had my top replaced by Riggs Brothers. Everything else on the top works, so Im not sure it will be obvious what might have caused the part to break in the first place. If everything works, is there still a problem?
The Ebay purchase worked. Replacement was pretty easy - 2.5 hours (because Im slow, I used loctite, cleaned stuff up).
I still dont know why it broke in the first place. I can only assume it had something to do with the hydraulic rams leaking, which have been fixed.
I still havent ever performed the convertible top calibration. Im not sure if I should or need to.
If the top is functioning normally, no calibration should be needed. Calibration comes up when things get out of synch and the top won't function properly.
