Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suspected cause
If the man at Porsche speaks, it's probably a lie.[
Leading evidence: 'lie.[' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'lie.[' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Set high' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.

The badge on my Carrera (MY01) is set high on the boot whilst others I've noticed are set lower.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I was wondering whether someone could solve this mystery...
The badge on my Carrera (MY01) is set high on the boot whilst others I've noticed are set lower. Please see pics...
This is one I cropped from a members car photo here...
Hmm. Can anyone please tell me why and which one is correct?
I also have recently removed my black badge (see first picture) and replaced it with a silver one which looks fabulous. I'm just wondering now that by placing it in exactly the same position as the last badge I've actually placed it in the wrong place!!!
All the badges are put on at the factory NOT at Reading.
The badge was probably put on by a previous owner, with the car probably ordered with the deletion of model designation option.
That's exactly what I was thinking. Perhaps a few more 996 drivers would add to the list so we can see a pattern forming...
Not that it's that important or anything, but something that niggles... [&:]
Saddo that I am, I've searced on the net for pictures of pre-and post-faclift 996s, as well as 911&PW with the 996 buyer's guide showing the rear of both models, and can confirm that Richard's hunch is true! The script was moved down on the facelift model.
Is this a world first? The spotting of another, as yet unknown difference, between pre and post-facelift cars?
I feel privileged to have been a small part of this find.
Group hug![

Classic tread of Porsche Paranoia!
pre face lift 996 have the script above the second curve in the engine lid,
post face lift 996s have the script below in the lover curve, its done to tell the difference from behind.
its worth noting the replacement script is available in two sizes, but I hear only the new lower facelift size script is available, the C is a couple mm different in height.
Guys, thought I post the update as I had asked the Porsche engineer who came to the Ace BBQ the question about the Carrera badge position.
Well, he said that the badge has never moved and the right place, is below the curve as in the picture below. This is usually done at factory but can come debadged if requested and then the order is changed or a new owner takes over an order, in which case it would be placed at Reading when being prepared for delivery and he suspects that it may be in these cases that the badge could have been accidently placed over the curve...
Since this theory was first suggested, I've been testing it on the roads, and not once has it failed.
It hasn't failed on any of the 'net or magazine images I've seen either, and I don't believe they were all 'mistakes'
Prove the theory wrong Kish![8D]
I know you joke but thought I put some credibility for Alex. Alex (Porsche service engineer) is just a young kid (must be mid-twenties) who is a Porsche enthusiast just like us (but just can't afford a Porsche as yet) but has access to lot of internal archives and data. His Porsche knowledge is pretty good and knowing everything Porsche especially the history and classic Porsche is his main passion. Mechanically he has only worked on modern Porsches at Porsche Centre West London.
He is very keen on getting involved with the club members and will be attending Ace Cafe meets on a regularly basis... I don't think he will join the forum as I approached him via Porsche West London and they are not too happy for him to start giving official Q&A sessions as everything he says or writes has to be approved. So to be fair the badge position is something he told me verbally and showed it to me on a 996 at Ace Cafe last week which had the badge below the curve...
Fair play to him Kish, we all very much welcome him at the Ace. It is very good of someone from OPC WL to give up their time and help us out. They also do a great job with the free inspections we ask for. To be honest, if he would have known about something as irrelevant as the badge position he would have been a bigger saddo than me![

The you lad Alex is coreect in what he says, but there is more to it!
Porsche lists 2 badges, on larger than the other, only one is now available, and its the one for the facelift, ie the on that fits in the convex without protrusion, the older one from the pre face lift sits on the convev curve, ie the upper half.
If Alex read up on it no doubt he may have read where to apply the only available one, ie lower convex.
Personally I like it in the higher for the simple reason that prior to me owning a 911 id I was stuck behind one in traffic up tight, I could see the word Carrera in the higher possition better!
No such issue on the 997 ehh...
Sorry Denis, but the badge you see in the photo of my car, which fits on the upper half, was purchased only a few weeks ago, and was readily available off the shelf. It is exactly the same size as the one I removed.
Yes yes, this is all very good, but has anyone noticed how many turns it takes for the valve caps to close on a facelift car's tyres compared to non-facelift?
Anyone?
I'll get my coat.[8D]
Yes, I KNOW what a saddo I am......[

Just found out a couple of exceptions to the rule - C4Ss and 04- cars with aerokits.
Therefore, the possibilities for the Carrera badge are:
C2 - up to 01 - Black - Upper
C2 - 02 on - Black - Lower
C2 w/aerokit - 04 on - Black - Upper
C4 - up to 01 - Silver - Upper
C4 - 02 on - Silver - Lower
C4 w/aerokit - 04 on - Silver - Upper
C4S - 02 on - Silver - Upper
PLEASE let that be an end to it, and for goodness sake don't start on the "4" and "S" badges. [

Rodders you plonker!
On a lighter note Richard the lenght of the logo is the same, its just the height of the C in Carrera has changed. I understand by a couple of microns no doubt!
Reckon we can make this in to a 3 page tread.
Incidently what angle is the water from your windscreen washer jet firing back at? For some reason mine is .4589 of a degree from factory? Hmmm strange....
What! After 14 days of no one posted, you wake it it up to say stop posting [

The Porsche engineer has been on holiday and no doubt he will want to stand corrected, so I will post his reply when he gets around to it... It ain't over until the wide-body roars [
