Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello all...
I've been wanting to purchase a 911 for probably the past 3-4 years. Then I'd get cold feet and go back to loving my 944. But she had been seeing her fair share of leaks and failing components so I started assessing how much it would cost to get her back to perfect.
So I found a vehicle with a deal I couldn't pass up and traded in my 944 for it. The car is exactly what I've been looking for. Sure I considered a 964 and 993 but after spending quite a few weekends under my car I figured the newest car I can get would be the least amount of maintenance.
It's a 2002 C2 Cabrio. Not sure on options yet and I don't know what half of the buttons in the vehicle do. But I'm a quick study so I'm sure I'll figure it out shortly.
Here are a couple of pics of both the incoming and outgoing vehicles. This one feels strange to drive so far but it's a lot more powerful, smoother, quieter, and planted than the 944. Hopefully soon I'll get used to it and won't have to drive it like an old man
I'm glad to be part of this club!!!
after we smack you around a while the old man skin will wear thin and you will be right at home in the 996 with fresh new young skin !
Welcome, looks really nice ! Thanks for posting the pics too !! (the 944 was no eye sore either ! )
I just got my C4 Monday, I agree these are buttons all kinds of places, worst part is when the delivery guy dropped it off there was no gas. My very first stop was the gas station, unfortunately I could not find the button to pop the gas tank! It took me a while and the manual to figure that one out! LoL
Oh trust me I am sad but I didn't want to bring these guys down with my somber mood!
I had a good seven years with my 944 though!
Thanks! I took it on the freeway today and was freaked out by the madness around me. I still don't feel all that comfortable but hopefully soon it'll start to feel like it's part of me like the 944 did.
Thankfully I have a half tank of gas - since I have no idea how to get that fuel door open either! I did figure out the trunk and hood release buttons though!
I'll post more pics this weekend unless I can get home early enough to still catch some sun for pics tonight. As I parked it at work today I had to turn around a few times since I couldn't believe it was my car
Congratulations and welcome to 996 country - another nice ragtop to add to the community. +1 on doing things to remind you that yes, you do indeed own the car... For me it was frequent trips to the garage...
Enjoy it in good health and safety...
Rudy
I wondered that my first fill up too, just push the front most part, itll open.
And congrats on the new car. Looks nice! I loved my old 944, but the 996 is an entirely different animal. You're going to love it! It's way more fun with the top down too.
Okay - you got me... in fact since I've had her back a whole two weeks, I'm back in the garage again... frequently. Fortunately I have a strategically place fridge out there for drinks... so I now get well over my recommended fluid intake per day...
If you have to hide it, is it an addiction or an obsession??? And which one is worse???
Rudy
Thanks everyone! I got home early enough for pictures but instead I packed up the family in the car for an ice cream run and cruised around for a while.
I'm becoming more comfortable with it but still can't get over the sound of the exhaust. I don't think it has a sport exhaust but it sounds so DAMN GOOD! The power from the engine is tremendous. I know I'll become used to it soon but for now it just feels like the engine doesn't have a redline as it pulls strong from start to finish. It also gets up to speed so quickly that I have to keep my eye on the speedometer every couple of seconds to make sure I maintain legal speed limits.
I promise a full set of photos by the weekend!
Congrats! I made the same switch 2 years ago! I remember driving the 944, then getting in the 996, and thinking how bare-bones the 944 felt in comparison! Then, after hitting the gas and hitting the red line, I never looked back!
I recommend you check out the videos that Coochas.com has on the 996, very cool. Check the one of the 996 vs. the Yamaha R1 - and note the speed the 996 was going!
Enjoy, and good luck getting used to the left side ignition key!
That's the beauty of being a long-time lurker...I know all about you!
You can't believe how difficult it is to remember that every time I get in the car! I get in, try to start the car and then remember I've got the key on the wrong side!
One thing I really appreciate about this vehicle is how it almost plays two roles at once. With the 944 the women of the house didn't like it because they felt it was too bumpy and loud. Last night when we went out with the 996 as long as I kept the the revs down the car was quiet and composed. But of course earlier in the day when I took one of my co-workers out on a ride the car was a beast wanting to run! Fun stuff...
