Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I joined this site when I owned a Boxster, two days ago I picked up a 2002 Targa. Here are some pics, It has 31,000 miles, 6-speed, heated seats etc. I really don't know what options were available. I just don't understand, expensive car, terrible sound system. I t has been lowered and has some type of aftermarket exhaust. Its not loud but sounds pretty nice. My Corvette is for sale on consignment. I have a supercharger kit but cant decide if I want to go that route again. Supercharged my Boxster, took my 40 hours. Big guy+little spaces=lots of pain.

POST 2Original post

Looks nice... I have always liked Targas... With an aftermarket exhaust, what's the need for a good stereo? You've got a built-in sound system behind the seats... If you really want to upgrade it though, there are lots of options for the 2002 model year, because they were still copper wires, not the MOST system.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I don't understand, you mean stereo? Would like to keep the factory look and maybe find a way to plug my I-phone to it.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

and were xenon lights standard? Kind of curious what options it has.

POST 5Original post

Welcome to the 996 Forum and congrats on getting the Targa. Nice looking! Your car has xenon lights. I can tell because you have the chrome headlight washer disk on your headlights. Look under the trunk lid for a white option codes sticker. If it is not there, check the inside front cover of your maintenance manual or owner's manual. If you post the option codes here we can tell you what they mean.

POST 7Original post

beautiful Welcome ! the "built in stereo" means the exhaust sounds so nice you wond need a radio Thanks for the pics, its really nice looking

POST 11Original post

Welcome to RL. Congratulations on the new car. Enjoy it in good health,

POST 12Original post

is that a personalized plate (all I could make of it scared me)

POST 13Original post

Congratulations. Love the color and the matching belts. Is that your Corvette in the background? Isn't the blue one with the white down the center, diagonal stripes on the fender and black wheels a pretty sought after model?

POST 14Original post

Welcome to 996 country - great looking car! I'm messing with my sound system too... six new speakers to install, plus the iPorsche iPod kit - probably this weekend... on the other hand, as I was driving in I realized the sound system in our cars is mounted just behind the rear wheels... no other car has a sweeter engine note... Rudy

I believe that xenons w/washers were standard on all 2002 996s. Became optional again in 2003, I think. And welcome, beautiful car!

POST 17Original post

Quotes source post: 6523870

Yes... I meant the stereo can be upgraded, but the exhaust note sounds so nice, many people don't bother. I have the OEM Bose system in mine, and it is not especially good. I would also like to plug in my iPhone. I like the factory look, so I am leaving the OEM stereo in place. I have an aftermarket bluetooth kit installed, and it seems to be working fine. I have seen several aftermarket head units installed that look very good. The Pioneer AVIC system seems to be a nice potential option.

Damn, we've got Newbies coming out of the woodwork lately! Fortunately for them, and unfortunately for me, they are intro ducting themselves and posting pics right away! Where's the fun in that????

I noticed that too. WTF, is going on?! "Kids" these days! Not like us when we got our 996's and were all f@cking clueless and got flamed for not posting pictures, then got flamed again for posting sh!tty pictures, then got flamed for asking stupid questions, and then got flamed just because their Porsche spontaneously caught fire and everybody laughed because they bought it from a Ford dealership . . . . . . ah, Tim, those were the days. It brings a tear to my eyes Where are all the wackos now?

POST 23 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Heres a pic of the sticker under the hood. Great pic I know, its just as hard to read looking at it.

POST 34 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Wow, thanks. Do those little silver covers on the headlights pop up or something? I've been driving it so much I haven't even read the manual. Its funny, I don't even know how to use the washers for headlights. I see the little pic on the stalk.

POST 35Original post

Yes, they will pop up, but you need to have the headlights ON and then you push the right stalk toward the front of the car (IIRC). However, the chrome disks have a tendency to fly off at high speed, so most guys don't use the headlight washers.

POST 36Original post

Quotes source post: 6526623

I completely disagree... I dont wear pajamas!!!

POST 37 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Funny, he owes me one chrome disk, must have flown off as you stated. It was missing when I bought the car.

Great looking P-car! Gotta love GR. Spotless. To be honest, I don't even know if my washers work. I can't bare to think of all the crap running up my fenders as I press the stick forward. Washer fluid would run all up the fenders, hood and doors. If mine don't work...so be it. I'll never know. I have thought about doing it just before I wash her, but always forget. If I actually hit anything large enough to splatter all over the lights and it needs to be washed off, I'm quite certain my tears will wash away the residue.

POST 39 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey Jugger I take a vacation every year in Tenn. what a beautiful state. We get a place in the mountains by Pigeon Forge. Cant wait till September.

POST 40Original post

Great looking car and enjoy it. My take on the headlight washers is simple: If you do not like those chrome thingy-dingys, flip the headlight washer stalk forward and off they'll fly! Simple, really - I've lost one on each side (suncoast has replacements).

POST 41 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I think I will go with the never use them method. I would like to get the other one on asap.

POST 42Original post

I've been finding reasons to drive mine almost every evening for the 2 weeks after getting it My wife thinks Im nuts.

LOL not officially, but that is funny ! My garage is detached, so I have to cross outside which requires some real clothing (since I dont wear PJ's) but I didnt think of it that way, a little slow this week!!

POST 46Original post

Beautiful Targa, looks great with those wheels... I used to live in Solon 13 yrs ago and often drove to Akron to visit friends and colleagues, welcome to RL. As you already noticed, you will find a lot of great info on these cars here. Cheers.

EXATLY! Just don't use them, forget they exist, they're useless and they fly off at nearly any speed. I think mine is jinxed: My car was delivered by a Porsche Dealer, certified, with one missing, which I didn't receive for three or four weeks. Once received it was stolen (in the box) off my passenger seat along with my garmin GPS in sunny Beverly Hills CA. I ordered another from Sunset, and ordered the correct part. They sent the part for the opposite side. Returned, received, I put it on, and six months later accidentally activated it, came off. Hate it. LOVE the clean look on your car, very unique, very smooth. Best, Hans

POST 50Original post

Who cares about the stereo??? You need to rethink your priorities...

POST 51 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was showing my friend my car and told him I could open the top with the key remote. Well, I didnt know how to do it but discovered the car has a hatch. No idea the back window opened!
