Suggestion

Thomas, I would check to see what the actual rpm is using a durametric or some other meter to read the ECU.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello Porsche owners! My father has just bought some years ago a 2002 996 Carrera 2 with manual 6 speed transmission. It has a problem what we couldn't figure out yet, what can be. The car drives really well, but when it comes to driving till REV limiter, it doesn't go upper than 6500rpm. It is like if the limiter would be set at 6500, on the other hand I absolutely know that limit should be at 7000 rpm. Do you have any idea what the problem can be? And how it can be repaired, what does it cost and so on? Thank you in advance! Greetings from Hungary Thomas

POST 2Original post

u can try an e-gas recalibration. Its for resetting the the electronic gas pedle signal. Just do a search for the proceedure. Maybe someone installed a limiter or u have an ignition or fuel delivery issue. A weak fuel pump will deff restrict power. All just guesses, good luck.

POST 3Original post

E-gas calibration - turn ignition key to position 1 (not start) and wait for 60 seconds. You might hear some whirring/clicking back in the engine bay. Turn key off. In this procedure do NOT step on or move the accelerator pedal. Then start up normally and go for a drive. Make sure you have some high octane fresh fuel.

POST 4Original post

Thomas, I would check to see what the actual rpm is using a durametric or some other meter to read the ECU. I have seen bad readings on my car when the wrong instrument cluster was installed in the car. Their are nuances between the different models....such as GT3 VS C2. Sobget the rpms off ECU.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
