Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've got a 2005 996 Turbo S, (ceramic brakes as standard), On occasions they can be very noisy on gentle braking. Porsche say they are fine, and should last the 100k as suggested! Has anyone else heard of this or experienced it? It's fine when it's just me in the car but can frighten the life out of passengers. I have heard it may be a friction effect, but would welcome other comments.

POST 2Original post

Hi Jezzzer, and welcome to 911uk! Can you explain what kind of loud noise they make? tapping/graunching/grating/etc? Do your PCCBs still have a smooth surface all around, or are they rough in patches?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Adrien, thanks for the welcome, The noise is diificult to describe but I would liken it to a 'fog horn' sound, they don't judder or grate. The discs seem smooth all round. When I brake hard it seems to 'cut through' the sound. I can then go for a few/many drives without any reccurence. Porsche aren't aware of this happening, but I feel their experience of PCCB's in this country is limited? Maybe it is a quirke of the system, but I wouldn't have expected it!

POST 4Original post

with a some what higher pitched noise ? is the bedding in process the same for ceramic as normal steels ?

POST 5Original post

It doesn't sound normal - they should be silent when not braking! If it persists, I would recommend taking it to one of the reputable independents like JZ who are very good at diagnosing problems and finding the cause. The bedding in process is the same for ceramics AFAIK.
