Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Is there a major concern with the IMS bearing with this engine,...It has 73 K miles, What should I look out for with this year car,.. they are asking 18 K for the car,.?? and it is a rag top. Thanks Frank

POST 3Original post

Drive it till it breaks then park it. No, seriously great cars if well maintained. Drive it. Look at records. IF good get PPI from a 996 indy specialist. If it blows up part it out. Remember 90% of these cars dont have a IMSB failure. But, also remember that parts suppliers will remind you of the 55 ways for the 996 to fail you.

But the 10% of the people who gets the IMSB issue, they are 100% responsible for the $15K rebuild. Do it or don't do it at your own risk. The 2003 is susceptible.

POST 5Original post

Caveat emptor Owning a used car carries the risk of mechanical breakdown without factory warranty. Some exceptions may apply.

POST 6Original post

Hi, I have a 2002, 996 with the 3.6 L engine. it has 120000 miles. I am having a blast, great cars, mine had the IMS fixed when it had 1000000. My recommendation is take it to a Porsche mechanic and fix it it will cost you 2k, if you take it to the mechanic and want to check it it will cost you also 2k because it is all labor.

spend the money to have a clutch and IMS installed. than you will have a new clutch and a super reliable engine.... not to mention a better nights sleep. great cars! huge bang for the buck when sorted out!
