Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

like you i was conserned about what sounds like a bottom end death rattle at tickover :x ,had it checked by leeds opc with the same 111 point health check and all is fine, it would appear that they are all like that,i do have the assurance of a opc warranty though
Leading evidence: 'Check by leeds opc' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check by leeds opc' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Please help. Just collected my car from Leeds and enjoyed my drive home (Cornwall)
After 300 miles or so I could hear a low pitch whiring from the front end thought it could be brakes or wheel bearing. Seems to be quite under 40 and gets worse as you increase speed no difference if I brake or dip the clutch.
Once I got home I could hear a rattle from the rear thought it could be exhaust baffle? Next morning the rattle is there on start up sounds like thrush bearing but no difference if I Dip the clutch it reminds me of a Ducati with a dry clutch could it be the bottom end. Worried I've bought a lemon.
TTs are made from a different block to the standard 996, so you can take some reassurance than they don't suffer the same percentage of catastrophic failures.
That said, they are a very expensive car to repair and maintain. Definitely need to get your OPC warranty sorted asap.
The car plan usually has an upper limit, like £400 or £1000...or a labour limit. Well worth checking out and comparing
Personally, I would take it down to OPC, get them to check it for warranty. Get any issues fixed on your car plan and then take out the OPC warranty.
I don't have anything I can add on the noise, but it does sound worrying. The 996 engine is quite noisy though.
Did you buy private or from a dealer?
If it was from a dealer, then they should sort the issues.
You could take it along to an OPC and report the noises to them- forewarned is forearmed and all that.
No it wasn't, I have to say the dealer seemed very good and was very suprised when I phoned him. I have now booked the car for a 111 inspection on Thursday, I have checked from a legal point and I beleive the dealer will have to sort the car as it has been sold and is not fit for the purpose. Just hope it's nothing to bad.
engine noise
i recently purchased a 996tt, private though not a dealer
like you i was conserned about what sounds like a bottom end death rattle at tickover :x ,had it checked by leeds opc with the same 111 point health check and all is fine, it would appear that they are all like that,i do have the assurance of a opc warranty though
please let me know if it turns out to be anything serious
it would be interesting to see if any other 996tt owners post about the same noise

I don't think it is unusual to get a lot of noise from the back when they are cold, does it go away as it warms up?
I'm not familiar with the duke sound but on mine it seems to come from the exhaust area mainly as it warms up - there's a lot of stuff heating up at the back there on a TT and nothing to really deaden the sound especially with all those intercooler intakes and vents.
No idea about the front I'm afraid
Whatever you do don't open the door and listen to it after a bit of 'spirited' driving, you'll scare yourself to death
I've now had the car checked, just as you said normal rattles as you would expect from a TT the front end was a wheel bearing as I thought. Unfortunately they also found some other exspensive repairs. The dealer has offered me a full refund and will source another TT with warranty. Just shows there are still car dealers who want to keep a good rep.
