Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
PCM II came out in 2003 and I am still using 2003 discs.
Leading evidence: 'Use 2003 discs' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Use 2003 discs' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi,
Lots of debate on here about PCM II versus TomTom etc.
I'm hopefully about to buy a car that has PCM in it. This is a "nice to have" feature, rather than something that is a "must have".
However, it seems to me that the PCM II maps are out of date (this is PCM 2, on a 2003 MY) and I am unclear (and cannot find anything on this forum) about:
a) Is it possible to upgrade PCM 2 to PCM v3.0 (or 2.1)
b) How much do these upgrades cost
I've been looking around on the Internet and the general concensous appears to be:
a) yes, it's possible
b) about 400quid!
...then I found something that suggests it's actually possible to upgrade the PCM 2 system to a Navtech and it will take the newer (and cheaper!) Vauxhall CDs.
This is a cut+paste that I found..............
"now have the latest (2005) NavTeq GB satnav map installed and working in my car. The Opel / Vauxhall disc does work in the Siemens PCM but first you have to install a bit of Porsche upgrade software. This is very simple as you just insert the upgrade disk, it initialises itself and then asks you where you want to go (my one seems to have the 2003 database on the same disk). Then you insert the 2005 Opel disk, it initialises itself and ... it works!
"
The Siemens unit, as I understand it, is the older PCM 1 version, but I'm lead to believe that the PCM 2 version can also be upgraded in a similar way.
I am well aware of the TomTom and other units (I actually have TomTom myself), but want it integrated into the car and also have the directions appear on the computer display below the speedo.
Does anyone have any experience of the PCM 2 that they could please share?
Thanks.
After speaking with Scott (uuf 361) at Ragley Hall 2 weeks ago, he managed to buy some upgrade discs for his PCM II unit from eBay. PCM II came out in 2003 and I am still using 2003 discs. Would love to buy a set of 2005 discs which Scott bought, but haven't had the same luck as him after doing a search on eBay.
I am not sure I would put in another unit from another car unless it looks like a Porsche unit as it may have an effect on re-sale value (albeit minimal I'd say).

Sorry, just to be clear. This is still keeping the Porsche OEM PCM 2 system, but is SOFTWARE upgraded to support the newer Navtec maps. From a look and feel, I'm led to believe there's no noticeable change.
Presumably it's also possible to backup the OPC 2005 CD maps.
Hi Guys,
I am new on here and have a MY03 X50 TT....but does not have PCM, but just the Bose with the Becker system.
I just wanted to know if its possible to retro fit a PCM as i may be able to pick up a PCM 2 quite cheap.
Is the unit the only part i need?
BTW great website with great info for new joiners and hey what a car...quite amazing!!
Cheers
Bash
There are several parts you need including the actual unit and you need to make sure this has the Nav module attached to the back of it otherwise this is about £600 to buy. Other bits are more to make it fit.
Sid Spanner did mine so may be best to advise.
