It's a great detector - but if you go for a refurbished unit, I'd recommend a Square Trade or other aftermarket warranty.

I opted for a quiet detector and will take the risk that a LEO will be running radar at that location one day.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I already have Valentine but best price drop I've seen so far for those interested...

That is a killer price. I've had my 8500 for about 15 years and it has performed flawlessly. My 996 came with an uber pricey Passport SRX (around $1,600) I prefer my $350 8500.
Although the newer BT versions are out, this is pretty effective without the bells and whistles. Just want to report the refurb ones(with 6 month warranty) are down to

Less than the price of 1 speeding ticket...
The reason the refurb ones are cheap is likely because it has a buggy radio module. I made the mistake of purchasing a refurb. The radio failed once under warranty and it's in the process of failing again (now that my warranty is kaput). They fix the buggy units instead of replacing them - the detector I got back was definitely the same one I sent in - and mine definitely has some issue that causes it to keep eating radios.
I'm normally a huge fan of refurbs, but in this case, not so much. I purchased three of these - two new, one refurb. The two new units have been flawless; the refurb unit is a lemon.
It's a great detector - but if you go for a refurbished unit, I'd recommend a Square Trade or other aftermarket warranty. The refurbished unit I purchased only had a 90-day warranty (the radio failed the first time in under 90 days).
I recently picked up an Escort 9500ix. So far, I love it. I know for a fact it has saved me from 1 ticket. (He nabbed the guy following me who flew by when I rapidly decelerated.) One thing I really like is the GPS positioning that tunes out standard radar sources like the grocery store door opener you drive by every day if you want it to. I opted for a quiet detector and will take the risk that a LEO will be running radar at that location one day. If I left it on, I would be desensitized to it at that location anyway.
Another nice thing is that my car was hard wired for a V1 and the phone jack/power cord pin-out is the same for power on both units.
My Dad has the 8500 and likes it. I find it a bit noisy for my taste, but he is pleased with it.
Either way, that is a great price!
