Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am new to posting on the site, although have been reading and taking advice periodically so thanks so far. I bought my 1st porsche, a 996 in April. So far only a replacement coolant reservoir needed. I have been looking at the posts and am now thinking, what if my luck runs out. The car is a 98 R so I won't be able to get the Porsche warranty and I live too far from Bolton so the Hartech is not practical. Any advice?

POST 2Original post

If you're after a warranty, might be best to get a third party warranty such as Warranty Direct or some other warranty that covers engine and gearbox minimum. They don't cost as much as an OPC warranty but then they don't cover as much either. ~ Maxie

POST 3Original post

Imho, 3rd party warranties aren't worth the paper their written on. Just like any other older used car, just ensure you have the car regularly serviced by a reputable independent and get things replaced as necessary. Given the performance on offer, the 996 is a very reliable car - although not the best built.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the advice. Using my car everyday, so far so good. Loving it every time I drive it just don't want the honeymoon to end. Can anyone recommend good value garages in the Surrey / Hampshire area for servicing, brakes etc.

POST 5Original post

> Can anyone recommend good value garages in the Surrey / Hampshire area for servicing, brakes etc. Camtune in Godalming (Surrey/Hampshire border) are very good. RSJ in Slough are also very good.
