Seen several threads about this from years back, but I am in the market for a hard top for my '05
boxster S
, does anyone happen to have one they're willing to get rid of?
Hi Benji - Welcome to P9! I'm afraid these are "unobtainium" at this point, and it may take you a long time to find one. It took me almost 10 years to find one for my former 05
Boxster S
(I had the same model/year as you); most people won't separate them from their cars. Keep your eyes peeled, and expect to pay upwards of 4K (I had good fortune a few years back to have two and sold one when I found an exact color match).
Please make sure to introduce yourself in the New Members section with photos of your car. It's a strong tradition here before asking questions. We're looking forward to hearing more about your ride.
Welcome and (as foodbiker indicated) please post a pic or two!!
I am also lucky enough to have one as the PO ordered from the factory. What is the color of your car? Where are you located?
I agree that these tops are quite rare. A word of caution though. There are a lot more hardtops for
986
Boxsters, and they are almost exactly the same as the 2005-on 987. However the
986
tops do not fit the 987. It takes a good eye to identify the differences, but mostly its the shape of the side window that changed slightly. The hardtop retaining locks that fit just beside the base of roll hoops are also different. The 987 top even has some
986
parts numbers that you can find when examining one, so be very careful. Good luck. I thnk the hard top is a great addition and changes the whole feel of the car in a good way when too cold for top down.
I love me a hard top. 😆 - Sorry don't cancel me. I am a comedian at heart.
@mbsl98
is absolutely right. I once bought a 986 hardtop for my previous 987 and realized on the way home that something was wrong as the windows did not go up. Luckily, I did another 2 hour drive round trip and the seller refunded my money (a lot of money!). They fit in the slots, but the angle of the window was wrong and it didn't go all the way up. If you're lucky enough to find one, you'll want to test it out thoroughly to make sure it's specific for the 987 and NOT the 986.
Hey! Mine is black! I’ve got to post more photos!
