Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Would it not be worth filling the water while holding the rev's up ?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Can any one help. my c4 3.4 is running a little warm when its sat in traffic for more than 10minutes. I have an opc warranty but would just like to know what the cause could be
thanks Tom
Should sit near 80 in normal driving.
In traffic (recent stop start queue into Donnington Park to see Porsche Cup and touring cars) for an hour I saw the needle go 3/5ths of the way up the gauge, but this was soon brought back down by the fan coming on automatically.
Does your cooling fan come on?
Have you checked your coolant level?
Thanks for the response guys.
Yes the guage does go up. It can go up 3/5ths & then it seems to hold for a while. I didn't hear the fans come on but i did pop up the rear wing & this seems to have done the trick. But i am still not happy.
I will ask the OPC to have a quick look @ the coolant level as its due to go in the next few days for a central locking / alarm going off issue.
Cheers Tom
If you sit in traffic, it's normal for the temp to rise up to 3/5ths (but no higher). It should drop back to around 80 or just over 80 once you get moving again.
I think I would not worry about it so long as the fans are coming on, and the temp is dropping. As you say, popping the spoiler up on a warm day is a good idea. Unless the temp gets into the red, or the light comes on, it would appear to be quite happy.
It may be worth mentioning it to a tech just to make sure all the fans etc are working just for your peace of mind.
Great advice & thank you for putting my mind @ rest
i will mention it to the OPC tech while they are looking into the central locking / alarm issue i will post an update in a week or so.
Sorry if you know this one, but check out that the rads are not all covered in crud and leaves at the front - its a known problem. When I got mine I had loads of sh1te in there... looked like years worth!!
...and if left there they can rot the cores of the rads. The first thing you feel when you put your hand through the "hole" is the AC condensers and the rads are behind them. As Roadhog says, it is important to keep them clear. I used to clean mine out 3 times a year and mine was kept in a garage - they just pick up leaves driving along because there is no grille, as it were to stop them entering.
An upadate if anyone is interested. The OPC checked the rads & collant level & said everything was fine. The fans are coming on when the engine is running warm & i can honestly say the temperature does rise a little when in traffic but all seems fine ,
Once again thanks for putting my mind at rest .
The 996 has completed a 2nd trip to Lemans this year for a track day @ the bugatti circuit , it performed faultlessly. I cannot recommend yellow Pagid pads enough
Thanks Tom
Would it not be worth filling the water while holding the rev's up ?
(Like you told me to do the weekend with mine)
My GT3, sits over the '80' ! about 2mm over the 0 of the 80 ?? In traffic she sits in the middle of the 80 and 120 !
my c4 runs between 80 and 100 depending on speed and ambient (and how im driving).
Anything over 100 is usually a sign of trouble although on most modern cars the system can run to 110 deg C for very short periods (towing and high altitude hill climb)
