Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I would like to know if the rear bumper needs to be removed to change the silencers and has anyone any tips about this job. I'm looking to remove the sports jobby to see if I can release the flaps that have been tack welded or even fit a stock exhaust. I'm finding the noise a little too obtrusive at times.

POST 2Original post

Do you have a switched PSE? A PSE with no vacuum applied ie. the 12v power feed removed or the vacuum lines disconnected will be loud by default. You should be able to reach up from the rear corners of the car to the top of each exhaust and manually activate the baffle. This should prove whether or not the previous owner welded these shut.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I can see the weld on the little levers but there is not enough room for me to either file or cut it away. The last owner had it retro fitted at an OPC (I have the invoice) so they must have done this as there is no vacuum parts either.

POST 4Original post

the bumpers don`t need to come off to take the boxes out 3x13mm nuts and and 2x17mm nuts on the sleeve and it`s down

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Sid, I had wrongly assumed that the vertical long and short bolts had to be drawn out of the support brackets as most photos don't show the brackets attached. It also looks like I'll need a new pair of sleeves and clamp bolts before I start the job.

Job done last night - how easy was that !
