Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.

0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.

Suggestion

I'll probably regret this, but I have been un-warrantied for 4 years in total out of 7 years of Porsche ownership - so that's probably around £5,000 in the bank if you include savings on servicing etc (by using independents and no 111 point checks).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've had my 996 tip cab for 18 months now and went for the OPC warranty. Car has been faultless over 7k miles and warranty expires next June at which point the car is over 9 years old (with 70k miles) so can't be renewed. Do I sell it? Do I keep it and risk a 'Lunched' engine? Is there another alternative? Thoughts and help appreciated.

POST 2Original post

an interesting dilema, as there are a lot of early 996's from 1998 reaching that 9 year limit There can be other warranties, but it is somewhat of an unanswered question for now.

OK, so I've had to pay for a few things that would have been covered (still less than £1,500 I reckon though), and I can get a reconditioned engine for a little over £6,000 (Autofarm). So, if it fails in the next year I'll be a couple of grand out of pocket, but driving a fantastic car, with a fantastic spec, with effectively a new engine... If it doesn't fail, I'll be several grand in pocket and driving a fantastic car, with a fantastic spec, with a nicely run-in engine! Alternatively, I could sell it now while it's all working, and it will cost me somewhere in excess of £15,000 to change it for a newer model... hmmm, tricky decision!

POST 4Original post

Warranties on older cars can be had with Hartech. Have never used them myself but have heard only positive things about them. As for cars less than 9 years old I would never consider NOT having a full OPC warranty, but then again I have just had a gearbox rebuild done after the 2nd gear synchro failed on my 996tt. That would have cost me £4318 if I didn't have the warranty. At the same time I had the clutch replaced and as the gearbox was out they only charged me for the parts thus saving me £1600. A few months ago I also had a door locking mechanism fail. Again this was warranty and saved me £400. My warranty expires next month - I have already written the cheque out to OPC for £895
