The odd thing is, he has a log book for the car which he scanned and mailed me and when I HPI'd the car, it came back clean and even his story about the plate being changed currently came back right.

I've pretty much come to the conclusion that this is a scam, but thought I should probably post details of the car up here as its probably a members car or something.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I recently contacted a guy about a 996 Turbo which was up for sale. It was extremely cheap (20k), so I was suspicious right away and after chatting with the guy over email for a bit, decided that it was some kind of scam. The odd thing is, he has a log book for the car which he scanned and mailed me and when I HPI'd the car, it came back clean and even his story about the plate being changed currently came back right. He obviously knows the car, but its one of these scams where you have to pay for the car upfront and then he'll (apparently!) ship it over from Canada. He has mailed me details of the company who he plans to ship it with, but on looking at their website, its missing important details like a telephone number or an email address and the "where to find us" link just goes to multimap (UK, not Canada where he says he is), not a specific location. I've pretty much come to the conclusion that this is a scam, but thought I should probably post details of the car up here as its probably a members car or something. The old reg plate is: 5 DEX The original plate is: MW52 SZK The chassis number is: WP0ZZZ99Z3S681184 Any advice on what to do with this as I don't want some poor unsuspecting person falling for it, should I just contact the police? Jay

POST 2Original post

I would say definite scam. Why is he selling over half of what it's worth? If it sounds too good to be true, it certainly will be. Yes, I would also inform the police, but I doubt there's much they can do about it.

POST 4Original post

He's given you details of a car that you can check up quite easily while he's pretending it to be in his possession. Why don't you call his bluff and say you are making a business trip to Canada next week and would like to hand him cash personally and see the car before he ships it over. This is what I did one time and the so-called seller ran! ~ Maxie

POST 6Original post

whenever you get these 'shipping' companies with dubious websites mentioned its time to walk away.

POST 7Original post

come on dont do it who would part with 20k to another country to someone you dont know.its a scam and even if its not 20k for a 996tt doesnt happen.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I know it's scam, I was just trying to contact the person who actually owns the car as the car does exist! I'm not stupid enough to part with that kind of money without seeing what I'm buying, don't worry!

POST 9Original post

I'll see if I can track the owner via work and warn him/her
