Stop restart car then car drives good till you hit 5040 RPM's .The code P1266 comes up .Talked to local dealer and a independent shop both agree replace ECU.

Had a p0336 crankshaft position sensor code replaced the sensor code came back up no check engine light just a stored code . At 5040 RPM's the car shuts down in limp mode . Check engine comes on want take the gas . Stop restart car then car drives good till you hit 5040 RPM's .The code P1266 comes up .Talked to local dealer and a independent shop both agree replace ECU. Replaced the ECU with a rebuilt on from Specialized ECU Repair . They could not find any faults with mine but I still bought a rebuilt unit . The same code comes back with the rebuilt unit P1266 and the car shuts down at 5040 RPM's . We did a IMS bearing , complete clutch flywheel ,plugs replacement water pump , new starter ,starter wiring harness from alternator to starter . No miss fire codes no miss fires no cracked coils . Coils are the newer bigger ones .Any suggestions on what is the problem ?

P1266 was the code for an implausible signal from the fuel shutoff monitor. Supposedly, this was fixed by a DME reflash with updated software many years ago.

Saw this on another 03 a few months ago. customer replaced flywheel and bent one sensor tooth inward. Scope sensor pattern at 5k; look for a dropout between the 2 tdc's displayed.
