Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

could someone point me in the right direction on a couple of topics, a. what can i expect to get for approx £20 - £22k in a 996 auto, phillip raby has said he would not touch a 996 at this price but her indoors would have my life if i spent anymore. b. what should i be looking for in respect of service history and should i buy trade as opposed to private. would appreciate any help :?

POST 2Original post

I listen to Phil, or 'er indoors will have your neck when the maintenance bills come in. Seriously you may get very lucky at this price level, but more likely you will get trouble. An extra few grand will be worth it in the long run.

POST 3Original post

How about an LHD 996? Those might be reliable at this price level? ~ Maxie

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

POST 6Original post

My advice would be :- get a divorce, take half of all she owes you, sell all her shoes and get a top nick 996 for approx. £45-50k. Howzat sound?

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

fOR THAT SORT OF DOSH ALL I WOULD HAVE TO DO IS SELL THE SHOES---- FOR THAT MATTER JUST THE RIGHT FOOT ONES BUT THANKS FOR THE ADVICE ANYWAY

POST 8Original post

I reckon you could probably find a decent 996 in that range, if you are not fussy on colour combos and don't mind a high-miler. Prob is you will prob end up spending a fortune on pre-purchase inspections (about £300 a pop from memory?) to sort the wheat from the chaff, and therefore, if lets say it took you 10 checks before you found a decent one, you could have spent the extra £3000 on the car, and put you into a better league of car in the first place. Use that logic to swing her indoors (I did!!) and you'll be laughing

POST 9Original post

In my experience, these cars are expensive regardless of price. Routine maintenance is probably more expensive with an official car as you are tied to main dealers. Tyres and consumables are the same. The difference is if engine/gearbox detonates which is on a 996 an entirely random event (others may disagree). These extra repair costs should be balanced against depreciation which is generally the highest cost of motoring. Then again, its only money and the whole thing is offset against the enjoyment of driving and owning. What price do you put on memories?

POST 10Original post

I keep telling myself that everytime I put a new set of tyres on!

POST 11Original post

hhmmmmm nought wrong with early 996 Auto's, so no reason a well looked after one will be fine although I can understand why these are becoming hard cars to recommend due to the shere technical ability where there are fewer non OPC's who can look after them... although didnt they say that about the 964, which are all fine now ! a PPI is vital, just let us know what you find

POST 12Original post
