Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I set the cruise at 27mph, which, according to all the radar speed warning signs, is exactly 25 mph.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
24 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Cruise Control. Utterly useless.
These are the first cars I've ever owned that I didn't use the cruise control, at all. Like, ever. The cars are simply too much fun!
Ever taken a 650 mile road trip? It's pretty useful for that.
If you really want to know what the most useless option is, that would be the voice control. Original buyer of my car (
981
) paid $700 for that option. It's completely useless.
Made many 1200 mile trips each way, from PA to FL and back in past years. Trip was typically made south in November and north in April and a couple times, in-between trips as well. Did it for 6 years, many of which were straight thru for 19-20 hours each. Cruise control on the interstates was a god send.
Cruise control on a
Porsche
IMO is an excellent anti speeding device, that’s what I use it for on a trip anyhow. That way when I pass I’m hyper aware I’m “ rockin in the free world”.
I think many would agree with me that cruise control is indispensable for long trips, no matter the car.
I'd say that
sport chrono
(lap times) and the OEM NAV map integration is likely up there on the list for arguably useless. I love my SC clock I put in on my
981
Outlaw, as it's a fantastic looking clock. But as it only functions as a timer on the 987, I've never bothered to retrofit.
I believe the
GTS
package includes it by default. If this is your first
Porsche
, you might not recognize it. There stalk on the bottom left that controls it. Push the button on the end to turn it on. Flip the lever back to set/increase the speed and forward to decrease the speed. Down to disengage. Up to reengage.
I did use the OEM Nav map once when I was in the mountains in Shenandoah Valley and my phone wasn’t getting any service. Got us from the restaurant back to where we were staying. Otherwise it’s been pretty useless haha.
I am actually surprised no one said the auto stop-start feature. I am glad that I can turn it off and keep it off whenever I start the car back up. I have to turn it off manually everytime I get in the Jeep which is tedious.
Actually,
Porsche
took that away around 2016, and latest

to Hirestes 9: I intensely dislike the start stop feature and love that the
987.2
lacks that nonsense as well as retains the cabled E brake which makes brake service a breeze and works fine when used and maintained correctly.
Not sure if this qualifies as a ‘feature’, but the Emergency Frunk Release is the most asinine, nearly useless and hardest to access part of these cars equipped with it. So, one comes out of a bar/restaurant, it’s dark, torrential downpour, late at night only to find you have a dead
battery
. Can’t open the frunk to jump the
battery
, because hey, the
battery
is dead. Duh! One only needs to jack up the left front wheel, (oh, that’s right, there is no jack), remove the lug bolts, (oops, there is no lug wrench) remove a few wheel well liner fasteners, (if you happen to carry a few hand tools to accomplish that, as long as they are not in the now non-accessible frunk or trunk) and then locate the tiny nub of cable protruding from the upper wheel well. And since it takes a major pull on this nearly hidden cable end, you better have some vise grips or similar to complete this difficult task. Now where are those vise grips I carry? Oh, that’s right, they’re in the frunk/trunk.

My previous car was a
Miata
and I never figured out how to use its cruise control. Before that I had a
Panamera
with adaptive cruise which was very useful, especially when leaving the Autobahn and hitting the 50 kph limit. It allowed me to be slowed down by the car in front as we approached traffic lights. I havent needed cruise on my new
981
yet: I didnt have it on my 924S and never felt a need for it.
The absolutely useless feature, as far as I am concerned, is
PSE
...
David
I love my
981
to no end but I do think it should have a proper e-brake and I really miss a good ole hydraulic power steering. The thing still darts in where you point it but I miss that feel of knowing what the
tires
are doing. Only two things I would change on it but its not enough to keep me up at night.
Ha, I love
PSE
, it’s great to go quiet on the highway. I dislike that
PSE
adds no performance and that its magical balance point between civilized and raspy is not rowdy enough. I’ll vote for “ fancier dead pedal” as a waste of cash, I would have skipped that.
Back to the original - I used cruise control frequently, in what might seem a rather odd place: our local suburban streets.
The streets in our town, except for two county roads that go through town, have a uniform speed limit of 25mph. It seems like overkill, but there are numerous kids around, ebikes, driveways, and cross-streets. It's not an unreasonable speed limit (there is one road I'd suggest 30MPH on, but that would just confuse people.)
People come into town from the highway that passes to the west of us, doing 50 mph down the 25 mph streets... until they meet me. I set the cruise at 27mph, which, according to all the radar speed warning signs, is exactly 25 mph.
There are regular rants on our town FB page about the speeders in town. The response from the law enforcement is that the speeders are mostly residents. I would question that, as it becomes much more of a problem during the summer tourist season.
My only complaint about
Porsche
cruise-control is couldn't
Porsche
make up their mind which side of the steering wheel it belongs on? It's on opposite sides between my
Cayenne
and
Boxster
. So often when I go to set it, I end up changing the information display in the dash. Or turning the wipers on. They couldn't decide which side to put that lever on either. And my wife's Genesis - all of that stuff is relegated to a host of steering wheel buttons, which also require thinking to operate.

Yes, at $1,310 these things are expensive as hell, but they do actually have a performance benefit, if a very minor one.
