Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I was looking at doing this for one of my keys that’s missing the lock/unlock button (just the exterior plastic part, I can still use the button).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

Other than a Porsche dealer, is there any other outfits that will cut a new fob?

POST 2Original post

Assuming you "transferred" the chip and just need to cut, then I would think most, if not all, locksmith can simply cut the key? I am assuming you don't need programming, and your have the old / extra key.

POST 3Original post

Yea, any locksmith shop can duplicate the key blade. The real "magic" is the security imobilizer chip inside the key fob. That can be transfered to a new fob. But I believe to add another (new) fob you need coding and probably buy a new one from a dealer. Very expensive. OTOH, if you just are having problems with the fob buttons, you canbuy an inexpensive fob shell (ebay or Amazon IIRC) and transfer the "guts" from your old fob. No coding or cutting is necessary.

POST 4Original post

I was looking at doing this for one of my keys that’s missing the lock/unlock button (just the exterior plastic part, I can still use the button). I can’t figure out how you split open the key fob to transfer the guts. Is there a hidden screw I’m missing or is it just pry it apart?
