Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
With the last car I owned that didn't have a digital oil level system, the GTO, I hated having to get out of my GTO and open the hood and play the dipstick to check the oil level.

Take for example replacing a battery on the newer BMW's.

No doubt these same men use the spot out back to go to the bathroom too cause outside is where real men go to the bathroom.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am getting errant readings from my on board oil level sensor and my oil dipstick. The oil level sensor reads over full but the dipstick reads about 1 to 2 tix low. Is there anyway to reset this oil level sensor?
Try to check both in the morning before starting the car. As long as the delta and both readings are consistent everyday, there's nothing to worry about.
Neither does the dipstick. Both level measuring systems are intended to tell you how much of the last 1.2 quarts of oil are present. If the reading is accurate the rest of the oil must be in there somewhere.
No doubt these same men use the spot out back to go to the bathroom too cause outside is where real men go to the bathroom.
My Turbo doesn't even have a dipstick. Don't miss it.

What a silly procedure.
You're gonna get different readings at diff time of the day hence my suggestion of checking it in the morning.
I'll give you a hint. From room temp to operating temp, our ~9L oil will expand ~1/2L I.e., about half the distance between the "min" and "max" marks. The e-gauge compensates (or tries to) for this diff when it reports the level since it also measures the oil temp. Obviously the dipstick does not.
Another variable is the amount drains back to the sump is a function of how long the engine has been shut off and at what temp it was shut off.
I prefer manual, less things to go wrong and it keeps you sharper and more in tune with your equipment. Case in point, just look at our electronic frunk release that's caused so much panic since people don't know of any other way to open it until something breaks or malfunctions with it.
Just like all these driving aids these days(blind spot assist, lane departure warning, collision avoidance, etc.). Do people actually know how to drive any more?
You may find 2 generations from now, kids not even knowing what a dipstick is or how to check their tire pressures if the TPMS monitoring system malfunctions or goes out.
Even with the MkII 996's these cars are pretty simple inside and out without too many electronics, I love simplicity. My vet has so much crap going that you have to have a degree in rocket science just to be able to start the darn car. Track mode, sport mode, economy mode, etc. Even the freaking e-brake is electronic which I also hate. With the 996 all those mode's are under your right foot. My wife always tells me Im a 65 year old trapped in a 30 year olds body LOL.
What's worse is that in the newest cars (2009 and newer), you can't even check it electronically with the car turned off, only with the car on and idling at full operating temperature. Yes, you heard me right: the only way to tell if your oil is dangerous over-filled or under-filled is to turn it on and let it idle for 10 minutes. It's ridiculous.
No dipstick, tpms, collision avoidance, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, electronic emergency brake, torque vectoring, adaptive cruise control, active dampers, electric steering, adaptive headlights, active engine mounts, sound cancellation, laser headlights, nightvision, dynamic side bolstering, etc.
Point is most of these items are designed to either make you a dumber and less engaged driver/owner and or something that only dealers could fix. More moving parts = more chances of failure.
What really annoys me are the thing that require Dealer intervention. Take for example replacing a battery on the newer BMW's. If you're battery goes dead and you replace it, you have to take in into the dealers to get them to reprogram it. This is utterly stupid for something so simple and common.
My coworker who is a female would always have to take her car into the dealer around fall time when the temps dropped and the tire pressures went below a minimum threshold to get the TPMS sensor warning turned off. I'm sure there was a hidden electronic screen somewhere that would allow her to do it but the avg person probably woudn't know how.
Rant off
Yeah, once they added water to these cars, everything went downhill.
Seriously though. I am with you 100% on the required dealer intervention items. I had not heard about he Bimmer battery though. That is ridiculous!
