Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

On my way to work this morning the oil pressure gauge dropped to 0 and the warning light on the dash came on. Almost immediately the gauge returned to normal and the light went off. This has happened half a dozen times now, it hapens so quickly that i dont have time to stop the car and switch the engine off. By the time brain has engaged that the pressure has dropped, it has returned again. My feeling is that this is an electrical issue with the gauge. Obviously i have checked the oil level and everything is fine and there are no leaks. Any ideas guys Car is a 2003 C4S

POST 2Original post

Faulty oil pressure sensor......... its certainly a weak point on the 996 TT and known to go faulty.

POST 3Original post

exactly as Gastro said, had same symptoms on my C4S - oil pressure sensor/switch were replaced.

POST 4Original post

covered under the Porsche warranty if you have one

POST 5Original post

Regarding the oil gauge indicator, should that always be hovering on 4/5 when giving it some? Im always worried that as it's a pressure gauge it means that the pressure is high, and that it's likely to leak/burst out at any moment!! Spoken to a mate who tells me his is more 3/4 most of the time - do i have a potential problem? Thanks for any advice.

POST 6Original post

No that is completely normal Aled, nothing to worry about.

POST 7Original post

normaly high towards 5 when the engine is cold. hovers around 2/3 once engine warm unless given the beans and then it normally 4/5

POST 8Original post

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks guys, Have independant warranty that after investigation does not cover electrical components. Guess its a trip to my nearest indie for a new pressure sensor, any ideas how much i should expect to pay. Thanks again Rich
