Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

The t-stat opens completely at a lower temperature, but it won't change where the needle winds up once your car is operating at normal running temps.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I installed the 160 LN thermostat and I'm wondering where the gauge should read. Mine reads from the 8 in 180 to as high as just to the right still touching the 0 in 180. About right? All my posts are understanding my baseline of the vehicle.

POST 2Original post

I hope you're not the next KK. It's all normal but then again you are going to get people with slightly different readings. As long as the needle doesn't go past the right of the "0", you should be fine. That's when the fans will kick on to bring you back down. These kinds of topics have been covered many times in the past. You may just wanna do some quick searches next time.

POST 3Original post

Normal operating temperature for your car does not change because you have a low-temp T-stat. The t-stat opens completely at a lower temperature, but it won't change where the needle winds up once your car is operating at normal running temps. The low-temp tstat starts allowing coolant through the block and throughout the cooling system at a lower temperature than the standard thermostat. It does not change your cooling system capacity...

POST 4Original post

My temp gauge, with clean radiators, shows the needle straight up unless it's hotter than normal or I'm beating on the car.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks all. Just getting a baseline of where my idiot gauges are supposed to be. Love the DIY in the forum.

POST 6Original post

If you really want to know what your engine temperature is you will want to use the digital readout in the climate control display. It is more accurate than the gauge. To figure out which buttons to press to display the various temperatures, do a search on this site.
