Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I used epoxy resin to secure the ring which was increased in circumference by using Dynamat (sound deadening material) to make a tighter fit.

Suggestion

If it works it will be a simple case of removing the existing speaker from the grill (3 screws), attaching the bracket using the existing 3 mounting points leaving you with a 4-hole mounting.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi read the other threads about one member who has upgraded their speakers with MB Quarts. Can anyone tell me any alternatives to these, since ive been quoted nearly 200 pounds per pair? I saw also that these come with cross overs, which had been mounted in the front console, if i were to upgrade the speakers with these, where would i put the rear cross overs? is there room behind the speakers in the back to put them ? any advice on how they fitted to the grillles gratefully received thanks Jon [/quote]

POST 2Original post

Hi Jon, that was me with the MB Quarts.....but I didn't pay that much for them The rears have an unbelievable amount of room for 'hiding' the crossovers. I used velcro to secure the crossover to the back of the trim panel, the industrial grade stuff is the best The grille story is a long one..... Have a look at the pictures here: http://www.911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=12885 The 10cm MB Quarts have a detachable ring that the speaker twist-locks onto, this makes it very easy to fabricate to the existing grille. I used epoxy resin to secure the ring which was increased in circumference by using Dynamat (sound deadening material) to make a tighter fit. In addition to the epoxy I used Dynamat Extreme (the silver stuff around the speaker cradle) do further securing and deadening. The tweeters were done in the same manner. Hope this helps!

POST 3Original post

I was actually in the process of fabricating a converter plate some time ago but never finished. It was a simple piece of 2mm aluminium cut to fit the 3 hole fixing on the grill and convert to a standard 4 hole fixing found on any off-the-shelf 10cm speaker like kenwood, pioneer etc. I got one plate made up but have never tried it...just too busy with life i suppose. But now the car is off the road I shall get back on it. If it works it will be a simple case of removing the existing speaker from the grill (3 screws), attaching the bracket using the existing 3 mounting points leaving you with a 4-hole mounting. I'll post the results and pattern once i've perfected it. Should save us all a lot of money.

POST 5Original post

Just been looking at a set of Hertz 13cm components with the idea of dropping the big 13cm in the door and the tweeter in the dash to get better quality. Good value too at just over £100 per pair.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
