i just fancy idea of individualising my car to my tastes and trying to make her look that wee bit more upto date.....but, if lowering her and moving to 19's changes the car too much then nothing will be changed except type of tyre and that's where this place comes in....too get honest opinions on what does and what dosen't work

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thinking about lowering the 996, probably with h+r springs, but don't want to upset the balance too much. normally wouldn't even think twice about doing it but the cars are so bloody good as standard, but maybe just a bit too high so: who's done it and how happy with the results were you regards andy

POST 2Original post

Can work well, I have the complete KW Suspension set up depending how old your springs are, could be worth changing as well H&R are a good brand, what wheel sizes are you running ?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

running 18's but changing to 19's very soon, so base everything on 19's

POST 4Original post

Worth speaking to Flatsix on here, as he has done this just recently and is really happy with the results.

POST 5Original post

Hi andyc, I had mine fitted with -10mm Porsche sports suspension and thicker anti roll bars last December. Recently i had -30mm Eibach springs fitted. This improved the handling somewhat BUT you must have a geometery setup done as any lowering will effect the caster angle. This really enhances the lowered stance and brings it 'alive' Have a read of my recent post regarding who i would recommend, http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=14339&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=

POST 6Original post

Eibach springs are supposed to be very good. Much better feel than H&S (who make the springs for a lot of other companies) Not sure you can get the KR springs without the shocks, but if you're lowering, perhaps you should think about the Bilstein Sports which is what you get in the M030 kit (also includes thicker anti-roll bars)

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thanks guys. great info as always. was thinking about full kit but want to feel what each change does so will just be springs. going to go and have a good look at the eibach springs now and thanks flatsix for good set up guy. worth their weight in gold to have someone who knows where they are trying to get too thanks again

POST 8Original post

Have you driven a 996 with 19s before? 19s were outside the design parameters of the 996...

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

no polarexpress, never driven a 996 with 19's. i take it from the way your speaking that you think it's a pretty bad idea. best to stick to 18's? what are worst aspects of 19's?. would expect low speed ride to be slightly worse but improved turn in and ultimate grip to be slightly up please don't tell me it completley changes character of car

POST 10Original post

More expensive tyres, reduced ride quality and no benefits in the slightest that cannot be achieved with a 18" wheel/tyre combo in wider profile. On some of the US forums, the lack of suitable track tyres sees some of the 997GT3 owners looking at 18" wheel/tyre options as their only way forward. Remember going to a 19" wheel will also reduce the side wall profile, on a 996 with a 30 profile you'll be looking at 25 for the same width or 20 for a little bit wider.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

ok, let's be honest, 95% of reason to change to 19's is for looks and i've only just talked myself out of 20's so reduced profile is a benefit, in the looks dept at least imho enough people running 19's on 996's to already have found best tyre/profile/width without too much looking i just fancy idea of individualising my car to my tastes and trying to make her look that wee bit more upto date.....but, if lowering her and moving to 19's changes the car too much then nothing will be changed except type of tyre and that's where this place comes in....too get honest opinions on what does and what dosen't work cheers again for your replies andy
