Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I've got their 996.1 litronic system fitted - extremely effective.
Leading evidence: 'Install extremely effective' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). In the 80s there was a place near me where the 'inspecctor' wore a white overall/coat to inspect cars.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My headlights on the 996.2 are well past their best, I have the projector style halogens but the reflectors (part of the projector lens assembly) is badly discoloured with bubling and flaking of the chrome plating resulting in very low light output. New OEM headlights seem very expensive (£3k + vat) and second hand ones will be getting to the stage where they have seen better days. Has anybody found a replacement projector that takes H7 halogen bulbs that could be fitted to the original housing?
I fitted these a couple of years ago & they work really well, far better than simply replacing bulbs - although they're not H7 bulbs they actually have a better beam pattern; no issues getting through the MOT. They have a video on exactly how to fit them but ISTR there's an important step missing. It's pretty obvious when you get there. First one took 2 hours & the second one 30 minutes
Porsche 911 996.2 facelift 02-05 bi-xenon HID light upgrade kit for halogen headlights
Headlight upgrade kit with HID bi-xenon projectors for the Porsche 911 996.2 facelift with halogen headlights. Guaranteed improved light output! High-quality retrofit parts
retrofitlab.com
I also fitted a retrofitlab kit my car and would happily recommend it. It can be a bit fiddly at first until you understand how it all works, but it's not difficult and is well worth the effort.
I just checked and they usually do a "Black Friday" discount of around 15-20%, so maybe hang on another week or so ;-)
Indeed. I think the one I use is more sympathetic.I've had HID lights in the old Audi for years, even to the point where one ballast had gone so I put a normal bulb in one of them leaving the HID in the other. It still passed.
In the 80s there was a place near me where the 'inspecctor' wore a white overall/coat to inspect cars. I foolishly made the mistake of putting through a 1969 911T I'd just bought very cheap from Auto Trader. The chap must have wore down three pencils with the list of faults! One classic was the brake light "Showing white light to the rear" as a bit of colouring had come off the lens.
A touch of nail varnish sorted it.
That said in those days it was far easier and less problematic to get your MOT done over the phone
I've looked all over for replacement projectors but I couldn't find any that were the same size, loads for BMWs etc but the Hella units seem unique to the 996.
I've got their 996.1 litronic system fitted - extremely effective. Hard to see how an MOT station can tell the difference between retrofitlabs and standard xenons? Don't all 996.2s have integrated washers?
