but essentially by merging these threads you’re saying is once i gain access to the frunk i can dis/re connect the battery which should enable me to use the key normally again?

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi All,
I have a bit of a dilemma and hoping someone may have a bright idea
I have a '05 (Gen 2) 996 C4S and a couple of months ago I lost my remote key fob and now only have a physical key. I have been meaning to replace the remote but work has meant that I just haven't managed to get around to it.
Now the battery has gone flat and of course the electrical bonnet release (and the engine compartment lever) won't work. I have tried the procedure of using a donor 12V battery with the emergency release terminal post in the fuse box. The alarm sounds but the release lever (for either the bonnet or the engine compartment) do not operate. I have tried all sorts of combos of leaving the key in the door as some posts have suggested, unlocking/locking the door, and also turning the key in the ignition...all to no avail.
I have also tried to trickle charge the battery via the cigarette lighter but this has not worked. The charge process started but the charger now indicates a battery fault.
Can anyone suggest a means of getting access to the battery? A thousand thanks in advance for any suggestions?
If you take off/loosen/reach behind the front of the drivers side front wheel arch liner you should be able to get to the manual release cable (steel braided cable with a loop on the end)
Have you explored the method via the rear light cluster?

Bonnet Release DIY - for when the battery dies
The Boxster, Cayman, 996 and 997 are all designed with a battery stored under the front bonnet. This is great for weight distribution, not so great when the said battery dies and locks itself in. There are 5 basic entry methods. Three electrical and two mechanical. Early Boxster and 996...

I wonder if anyone’s ever had a situation like this before
On arriving at the airport we discovered the fronk wouldn’t open. Pushing the button by the driver’s seat led to a sound being emitted but not releasing the hood from the chassis so the fronk could be opened.*
With my bag trapped in the car i missed the flight and headed home.
There, under questionable advice, my pa sought out the spare key and pressed the fronk open button on both repeatedly, changed their batteries.. just generally sending a bunch of electronic signals to the car.
Now, the vehicle won’t open at all. Even both manual keys don’t open the car!
It seems to me the immobilizer has been activated as an anti-theft response. (also, the red square remote sensor repeatedly flashes twice)
I’m looking for information on similar cases and possible solutions.
Anyone able to offer a way out?
* I had the impression the fronk lock was jammed and figured the best solution was to get access to the manual cable under the left wheel arch.
One wheel nut is different from the standard others and the wheel itself is fairly straight in the arch, meaning i cannot a) remove the fender without removing the wheel or b) remove the wheel without access to the wrench in the tronk.
PS to me it seems unlikely the battery could have died as we drove for 2.5hrs prior, no radio on / external electrics running.
