Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I've had this annoying clicking noise coming from my driver's door that was present since day 1 of owning my 987.2 Boxster . I've searched for solutions and was never able to find a post or YouTube on same exact issue. It's one of those noises that's annoying but always put on the back burner for figuring it out. A couple of months ago I decided to finally tackle this by ordering a new window regulator, as I was sure that was the source of the noise. This is a story of why you don't buy parts before diagnosing. After getting the door panel off and inspecting the regulator, I could not find any part of it making noise. When I reached inside and grabbed the door latch assembly, I heard a little creaking noise. I took a video of the noise but it wouldn't let me post it here, but looking at the picture below, when you grab both ends of the latch assembly there is a slight give in the part that makes a small noise. The new latch does not have any give in it when I pried on it. The door handle cable was also noisy when rotated so I put some lithium grease on it when I installed it in the new latch (2nd picture grabbed from my video, so a bit blurry). For anyone else that has the same issue, try lubricating the door handle cable first before buying a new latch assembly. I'm glad to report that the problem was solved! The noise was like a clicking noise that happened over every small bump and "speed cushion" which we have many of now. Whether it was the latch ($325) or the cable ($0), it was money well spent to me as that noise was taking away from my enjoyment of the car. The new latch part number is 3D1837015C. This video helped for removing the door panel and window regulator: And this video was helpful in getting the door handle off so I could remove the latch:

POST 2Original post

Well done, @Reds89 ! Tempted to go back into my door at some point. I'm assuming you lubed both ends of the cable?

POST 3Original post

Hi @foodbiker i only did the end in the picture because it made noise when moved. That side is plastic on plastic. The other end is the metal cable that connects to the plastic door handle. Do you have a noise coming from your door?

POST 4Original post

I think so? Car is temporarily in storage until the snow flies -- I'll be double-checking then.
