Some would recommend a reputable indie as it’s old instead.

I posted about this when I compared indy versus OPC prices fir a Major Service, Spark Plugs and Brake Fluid change for my 996 Turbo.

if I was your Indy I’d wonder why I was good enough to fix you gearbox but not good enough to change your oil….
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all,
I’m trying to gain a range of thoughts on the subject line.
My car is an 52 plate Turbo with 66k miles on it and it has a main dealer service stamp for every year of its life.
When I bought the car, in Sept 21, I was content in continuing this trend, maybe because I wasn’t sure how long I’d keep it and had one eye on resale value. Also, lender advice at that time was that a Full OPC history was very sought after.
2 years on and I’m starting to lean towards keeping the car longer term, after realising it’s reward in getting to know it and learning to extract the best. Rather than the instant gratification of modern cars, of which I was more used to.
The question is, should I continue with the dealer servicing and is that worthwhile in terms of resale value?
Or will it not make that much difference, other than to my own pocket in the mean time, to go with a decent indie?
I’m in the Cotswolds so have a few indies to choose from and have been using Porsche Swindon up until now. Car is completely standard and does around 3-4k miles a year.
Cheers.
When discussed before the trade response to this indicated that a car with full OPC History was worth about £500 more than a car with some history associated with recognised indy's.
I suspect that if selling the car privately most buyers would value the fPsh at a bit more than that.
If you're planning on keeping the car a while and can find a good Indy to use it's likely that, financially, you'll be better off.

if I was a buyer.
Would I expect to see an OPC history on a twenty year pole Porsche . No
if I saw that all servicing was OPC but actual repair and maintenance was Indy. I’d think it was a bit disingenuous. if I was your Indy I’d wonder why I was good enough to fix you gearbox but not good enough to change your oil….
personally, a full rack of OPC stamps means not a lot. I think the real experience and expertise is in the independent network. This is why Porsche had to fight back for the classic business In recent years.
for maybe £500 come resale it’s a net loss in £ and quality.
Personally, I don't think it's worth to stick with an OPC and their prices. Much better to go with an Indy who actually know these cars and can fit the exact same quality parts for a fraction of the cost.
My experience is that indys do not necessarily work out better for servicing your car compared to OPC within their "modern classics" pricing model.
I posted about this when I compared indy versus OPC prices fir a Major Service, Spark Plugs and Brake Fluid change for my 996 Turbo. All this banter peddled by indys of "main dealer servicing at half main dealer price" is pure bunkum. I compared prices in a 50 mime radius from me. The best price (and the perceived value of an OPC stamp) was by an OPC. Not Porsche Wilmslow if anyone thinks it was them.
An OPC won't 'fix' anything they'll just replace the part -fitters is the term I use instead of 'technician' albeit they'll detect the part is defective first!
A decent Indy will look further into the car and advise on replacement along with trying to fix a part to extend its life as required.
I've not bothered with the OPC since 2015. In Dubai, the OPC was ridiculously expensive for servicing and maintenance (even for an expensive town, with huge mark ups of double, triple on parts compared to a normal supplier or independent) and a decent independent was 3 minutes from my office, so that was an easy decision after I saw a couple of quotations; and around here, the OPC was on the far side of town with no access to public transport, where there was nothing to do in that area, I don't think there was even a local cafe to sit in, so after one experience with the DVD maps, that was also an easy decision. It didn't make sense to me to have to take €80 cab rides to drop off or pick up a car for a service. As such, I've always taken it to an independent garage, as well doing my own basic servicing and maintenance. In any event, my car isn't as it left the factory, so I doubt any purist would look twice at it, should I ever come to sell.
As it happens, there is a new OPC far more local to me which I might try as it's only about 10-12 minutes away, but I've a relationship with a good independent nowadays.
I would suggest taking it to a very good Indie, who will be more familiar with that age of car and really take the time to examine it rather than just ticking off service items. I used Autofarm a few times in Oxfordshire and was absolutely blown away by their meticulous and diligent work, including detailed inspection videos.
