This is a follow up from my previous post - still need help! So I got a good
multimeter
from my electrical engineer neighbor (a Fluke) and connected it to the + side in series with the
exhaust
valve controller disconnected. After the car "went to sleep," about 10 minutes later, the reading was a steady .019 - perfect as less than .050 should be good. I was sure the valve power source was my issue so I reconnected it, just to see. Again, once the car went to sleep, it read .019. Now I don't think that was my issue (although I will reconnect it to a keyed power source).
Any ideas?
Battery
is only a month old as I thought the old
battery
was my issue. If I use a trickle charger, the car quickly gets to full charge and the
battery
itself tests out at 12.4 volts.
Voltage tests for a
battery
are largely inaccurate. You need to do a load test. Granted, a new
battery
should be fine, but there can be infant-mortality failures on them. I'd say, get it tested.
If the
battery
has ever been dead, then it is likely damaged, and could need replacement. Good thing is, with it being new, you should have a warranty on it.
If the
battery
is recovering fast on a trickle charger, that also could mean the capacity is compromised. 12.4V is actually pretty low for a brand new
battery
, if you still want to trust the voltage reading... it correlates to about 75% charge, which isn't great for a 1-month old
battery
.
0.019... what? Amps, I assume. I agree, that's a good low number.
Battery
draw can definitely be a PITA to track down, and while I’m fortunate to have never been pressed into doing a search for parasitic drain, this video seems to be pretty spot-on in guiding one through the process.
I leave my car for at least two weeks at a time. (Up on a hoist)
It has a large
lithium battery
.
With the doors shut but not locked, it takes a couple of hours to charge back up to full on the charger after two weeks.
Lithium
batteries have a very low self discharge rate so there is obviously some current drain.
Does anyone know the lowest drain configuration?
Doors locked/unlocked make any difference?
Frunk open, battery disconnected
Does that cause any “issues”.
ABS seems to reset after a short drive.
Might run the back up
battery
in the
Kenwood
screen down.
Just wondering if any
Porsche
systems wouldn’t like being powered down for a few weeks at a time. Manual, no electric suspension or anything.
