Can’t help with professional install, but I installed the Isudar board and whilst a little nerve racking for a novice it was perfectly achievable and works very well.

yes it will technically affect the warranty, but you wouldn't know it is fitted unless you specifically looked for it.

Suggestion
Good point about the update & to be honest we rarely use the stereo so it's really for the sat nav/google maps via iPhone option as the in car Porsche nav is a bit last century as we all know.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
57 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

This has solved that problem and you can't even tell it's been installed.
Just had NM Automotive Carplay fitted to my 981 Boxster PCM 3.1 by Sexstons in Wandsworth and relieved to say everything works perfectly; Maps, Music, Siri etc and PCM functions still available if wanted. Very knowledgeable and professional service all round.
Yes, correct NM auto website and price as in link above.
Give Sexstons a call if interested, it's 4-hours labour, there are risks as the PCM come out and gets opened up but they have done large number of installs and best compliment I can say is that I could not see that they had been in my car.
Incidentally iOS13 comes out Sept and car play looks and performs much better on that.

really tempted to get this for Android auto on my 981, I've got 2019 maps and online services but its still pants.
Hmmm... confused...
I was watching a review of new 8 series the other day. Apple CarPlay in the dash, but the app to download the door key could only be used on an android phone, not Apple.
So, if this thread is about Apple CarPlay, how can you "get this" for Android? I've not researched this whatsoever but surely Apples is Apples and not for Android? Have I missed something?
By the way... I have an android phone and an Apple MacBook. My phone's away being repaired by Samsung (battery expanded, pushing the case back off) and so I've borrowed an old iPhone of my wife's. Who would buy such a thing... It's horrible to use!

2 separate things re BMW.... Some manufactures all both. CarPlay and Android Auto. BMW currently only have CarPlay buuuuut......
The remote key to unlock the car only works with Android phones at present. Crazy eh. Still I find it easy to as the fob that comes with the car, why complicate things.

the Android version is a different product and is shown at the bottom of the page. shown as "coming soon" though and not yet priced.

I agree, but have you seen the size of the 8 series key!?, here:

Interesting - lack of Car Play in my 981 was the prime reason I was looking at the 718..
This updates the 981 brilliantly..
It does but its circa 800-900 when fitted, and I do wonder if the Apple Carplay/Android Auto software on the installed device will update over time or if your going to be stuck with the same version.

It says compatible with iOS 12 and upcoming iOS 13, so sounds like it should be good for a few years of updates anyway.

Website says £510 inc VAT - have I missed something?

Will definitely think about this..
Any videos of this working with the PCM functionality? I wonder if this would prevent an OPC/indy from diagnosing faults on PIWIS?
Curious to know if anyone has done this with a 987; the website says from 2012 but presume that does not include 2012 Caymans as 981 Boxster released Feb but Cayman was Feb 13.

I'm looking to change my 987 Gen 2 to a 981 with apple play unit fitted. Can someone please reassure a 60+ Luddite that it'll be reasonably straightforward to operate coupled up to an iPhone 6S?
Just to add to this thread after first discovering the possibility of retro-fitting Apple carplay to a 991.1 in this forum.
I ordered the kit for my 991.1 GTS from Nick at NMautomative and had it installed by Sextons in Wandsworth. Very happy with it, firstly the install is invisible and the carplay module is very discreetly accessed via a long press of the "info" button on the PCM. Nick was great at explaining the functionality and Sextons did a fantastic job of the install, couldn't tell they had been in the car.
I basically wanted to do it because I decided I'll probably keep the car for a couple more years (having had it for 3 years and still enjoying it) and the only thing missing from it was up to date infotainment. This has solved that problem and you can't even tell it's been installed.
just wanted to share as am very happy and would recommend.

Anyone with OPC warranty had this fitted?
Does it affect warranty at all, apart from the obvious.
yes it will technically affect the warranty, but you wouldn't know it is fitted unless you specifically looked for it. I have a year left on my extended warranty but to be honest I took the risk as I just wanted the better infotainment.
if you want to be 100% safe and keep warranty fully intact, you cant really install this

(Facepalm)
I must of missed it. Apologies.
I’ve been trying to fit a car play unit to a Cayman R today! It’s not gone well
Bought a Pioneer 130DAB unit and then got a fitting kit from a local place who I’d spent 30 mins on the phone to in order to get the right kit!
Took the car apart today which was very easy to do, anyway the connects2 fibre lead is an iso lead not a quadlock... went to an audio place near to where I am today (not near home) guy gives me another quadlock fibre lead to try, all connects up but doesn’t power up at all!
It’s going to be fun getting it to work and looks great when it’s in place! Just gotta get it working.
Anyone managed to get it to work on a 987.2 car with Bose?
mouseymousey said:
By any chance does it show the maps in the binnacle like the standard pcm nav?
The carplay update in next months IOS13 can in theory use the supplementary display. Will have to see if it works on this retrofit compared to an OEM version

You need to get power from the fuse box, the car's built in radio power doesn't work on aftermarket units.
Spoke to the company that sold me the lead... they said oh must be the other one then.
Anyway popping to then Thursday morning so fingers crossed will not take long to get it working!
Thread resurrect!
Now these have been around for a few years, are you all still happy with the system.
I'm considering fitting it to a new to me 991 and want to check it is still the best system to put in.
Thanks
News of late is that people are opting for

no extra box to install and takes only 1hr to install. They come to you to install.
Anyone here had it fitted?

No extra box??
For a BMW maybe, but no extra box for Porsche is needed. Your image is a red herring as that is a completely different car brand.

I had a look at their website, its now stated as a 3 hour installation so clearly some work to be done
1hr for 987 PCM 3.0 upgrade. Some others might be longer, but its not the faff of the other ones on the market.

How do they do it then?

No idea on the intricacies but they remove the PCM unit, open it up and work their solution direct into that.

Had a quote for £780 fitted for this smart tuning add on, can anyone who's gone for this give a verdict on this system?
Yeah would love to know too. Would make the 981 GT4 perfect!
I have the JoyAuto in my 984 GT4. Works perfectly. Coupled with some high end speakers replacing the Sound package plus setup, the EQ adjustment built into the JoyAuto box really improves the sound inside. Podcasts and music on a roadtrip are fine now.
Not too much of a hassle to install yourself if you're half capable at removing trim.

I have Bose in my 981 and the JoyAuto module, for some reason the sound is super quiet and if i enabled the loudness option in the JoyAuto module everything just sounds distorted. Also had a few instances of the module crashing and not then refusing to connect to CarPlay. A reboot of the unit seems to resolve it.
I fitted the Mr12Volt unit to my 987.2 a couple of weeks ago. PCM3.0 & Bose.
So far it works brilliantly: my phone connects and Spotify picks up where it left off in less time than it takes to start the engine and put my seatbelt on. Took a bit of fine-tuning to get the screen contrast and brightness right for Google Maps, but otherwise golden.
I confess a deep breath was required before I removed the PCM from the car, and another couple before I opened it up to fit the video board inside, but there doesn't seem to be any rocketry involved and unless you spotted that 'TV' was now an option under the PCM 'Source' menu you wouldn't know it was there.
Reversing cam next.
Another bump! I have a 2011 911 GTS with PCM 3.0 and BOSE. What's everyone's current thoughts on an upgrade solution to a wireless Carplay solution? Recommendations and costs (inc fitting) would be appreciated.
Subsidiary question, has anyone had something fitted in the Central Belt of Scotland?
Thanks

I had a quote from Geo Morrison in Rutherglen around 6 months ago to supply & install the NM automotive CarPlay module in my 981 GT4 (PCM 3.1 rather than 3.0). Cost was around £1000 but I ended up just getting a magnetic phone mount instead.
If you phone them and ask for Brodie he will be able to help, really knows his stuff!

I'm in Jordanhill and if you want to DIY it with a PCM3.1, I am prepared to help you.
I've put a Mr12volt in my 981 Boxster S PCM3.1.
Can’t help with professional install, but I installed the Isudar board and whilst a little nerve racking for a novice it was perfectly achievable and works very well. Really updates my Cayman 981. Amazon sell the board on Prime so gave me peace of mind in case it didn’t work well.
Apologies, Isudar is for PCM 3.1 only…
Check out this thread

I have bought one but not got round to fitting it - cheapest option and simple to fit, if it’s crap I can sell it and get the NM Auto card instead :-)
Thanks for all the input - much appreciated! I've double checked and mine's definitely 3.0, not 3.1. Now have 3 or 4 alternatives to consider. Anyone heard any whispers about when Porsche plan to release their own solution for 997.2 models?
