Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suggestion
They needed to build a new rear panel, getting the digital ECU to talk to all the analog instruments was tough, they needed the fuel pump from the 991 as it is direct injection, power steering was another challenge, it is still hydraulic but using electric steering pump from the 991..

Suggestion
They would have been better off just getting a standalone management system and starting from zip just using the motor.

As we know there are ways around the electric ps issue using the trw pump.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm not sure if this has been discussed elswhere but having just opened my
Evo magazine this morning Jethro and Litchfield have swopped in a 991 engine into his 996!
Ahhh!
A lot better than an Audi V8 or some other Chimera!!! Will look forward to my copy of Evo which will hopefully appear in the next hour ......... Or Monday :nooo:
I heard about that in a podcast, might have been Sam Moores Car Chat...
I think Litchfield is doing the swap and they said it is turning out to be much more complicated than they first thought. I am sure it will be awsome when it is done though.
Looks like a reasonably easy swap other than mating up the electronics and wiring to make a 991 run in a 996 and for everything to work. The 991 engine looks more compact so space shouldn't be too much of a problem, everything else like exhaust and pipe work can be fabricated.
Probably quite a bit over £7k for a used engine plus the additional time to get it to fit would take it way beyond what a 996 is worth, nice project though.
I had heard he was up to something regarding an engine swap but all the rumors were for it being a V8.
Litchfield thought they could make a business from it but given the amount of work it has turned out to be they reckon it will end up being unique, it is just not cost-effective.
They needed to build a new rear panel, getting the digital ECU to talk to all the analog instruments was tough, they needed the fuel pump from the 991 as it is direct injection, power steering was another challenge, it is still hydraulic but using electric steering pump from the 991.. the list of challenges went on.
I spoke to Syvecs recently about our engine project, they recommended that I speak to Litchfield because they had very recent/current experience of a complex install with a very early 996.
More horsepower, more torque, more modern dynamics, probably less weight, probably more compact, definitely more tuneable.
What's not to like, exactly?
I'm surprised that they hadn't thought about all this stuff.
Clearly its a di motor so they knew it needed a hpfp. As we know there are ways around the electric ps issue using the trw pump.
They would have been better off just getting a standalone management system and starting from zip just using the motor. Although maybe everything is CANBUS which would be a nightmare.
Either way I would have thought it was clear it would like be a complete nightmare getting the standard Porsche ecu to play nicely. Maybe best option would be to use a Motorsport ecu?
