This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • 911uk: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, I took out my right headlight today when fitting 70s Hella spot lights to the front bumper of my 996.1 for a laugh. The cable holder on the bracket is not holding the cable. The connector keeps slipping backwards when I put it in, seems v loose. There is a yellow moving part here which Google says is a connector lock but up or down it seems loose and the cable seems too short to attach with the lamp half out. Any ideas? Best wishes Edward

POST 2Original post

Mine does that. I settled for removing the inner wheel arch liner at the front and pushing it into place with my hand. The clip doesn't seem to hold the socket tight enough on mine either.

POST 3Original post

My nearside is the same. From memory I think there was enough cable to pull it so you can plug it into the light. I might have snapped the bracket, as it was already broken, so it was not in the way. But once in it is not going to come out.

POST 4Original post

This thread shows how much cable is there once out of the bracket. https://rennlist.com/forums/996-forum/1135598-broken-headlight-base.html

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Cheers, I managed to get it fitted by pulling the cable (which didn't want to come up) out, phew! Looking at the connector vs the other side the plastic holder has completely fractured with age and fatigue, problem with old plastic 25 years old! Hard to rewire the connector so glad I got the old one going, the part itself is cheap I see (blue) but fiddly, there is no flange at all left on the old one. Phew, dark nights in the countryside so need it fixed!
