So, I would recommend remove the ARB bolts last, which should remove the tension.

I had to replace the front subframe on my turbo about a month ago - all the ARB bracket bolts snapped off when I wanted to change the ARB bushes...I'll get back to that

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi there,
I'm in the process of changing the 'small' power steering pipes on the steering rack of my 2000 C4.
I've been unable to remove the 2 larger pipes, so have proceeded to remove the 2 small pipes in situ in car. I've managed to get 1 completely off, but the 2nd one I've removed one end, middle of rack, but the other end is solid. See pick, reds have been remove, yellow is stuck
So it now looks like I may have to drop the subframe to proceed , I've only seen articles around the C2.
Has anyway dropped the front subframe on a C4, Do I need to remove diff for example
All help greatly appreciated
Nigel
I've dropped the subframe on my C4S, which should be the same as yours at the front. You don't need to drop the front diff, but you will need to hold it in place. To be in the safe side, you should hold the fuel tank in place too, as the straps that hold that are connected to the subframe as well.
I had to replace the front subframe on my turbo about a month ago - all the ARB bracket bolts snapped off when I wanted to change the ARB bushes...I'll get back to that
As mentioned above, you just need to support the front diff and perhaps the fuel tank....I didn't, it seemed stable.
I don't know if you've done this part already, but just incase, at the front of the subframe there are 4 bolts on each side, one goes through the subframe, the other through the "tuning fork" and the other 2 into the ARB bracket - and then they all going a metal plate. In hindsite I
suspect
that part of the reason the ARB bolts all snapped on my car is that the metal plate was under tension and stretching the bolts. So, I would recommend remove the ARB bolts last, which should remove the tension. I'm ***** at explaining things - so here's a photo (not my car). Bolts in circled in red first, then the blue (ARB).
One more thing....don't forget to mark the position of the subframe, so you can line it up again.
Have only just got to look at this again (hospital/illness got in the way) and sorry for re-visit
Probably muppet time, but looks like the diff is help to front subframe on 2 studs, do I need to remove theses studs or will the diff slide back off ? Or does the diff drop with the subframe.
Apologies if missing the obvious
Many thanks
