Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So I was bidding on a hardtop near Seattle, and somehow made a bid on another hardtop in Southern California. keeping it short, I "won" on the hardtop in southern California and it is pick up only. I've tried at least five times to contact the seller to hopefully work out a way to cancel with no response. Not sure what to do. Anyone in the south want a good deal on a hardtop?
I fly to Seattle several times a month, and I live in Southern California. PM if you can't find a seller, maybe I can help you figure a way to get it yourself?
Actually, I do not believe that eBay considers that a binding contract. You can look at their terms of service, but I believe it is not enforceable.

Amigo, I think that applies to vehicles purchased from eBay motors, not vehicle accessories - but you're the attorney, and I'm just a lowly human.
Stiffing the seller is kinda dickish, but it's not the end of the world. Per eBay's non-paying bidder info, the worst thing that will happen is that This Will Go Down On Your Permanent Record...

David 993S: post hoc ergo propter hoc...while eBay may suck, OP's intelligence is not (necessarily) beyond reproach. Only OP will know for sure...
I did something similar a few years back on ebay, I fat fingered my bid (wrong decimal point) and unfortunately won the auction for much more than I wanted to spend. I emailed the seller and explained the situation, he was very good about it and said he understood, without him asking I Paypaled him $100 for his troubles / fees and relisting. Karma imo.
Well so far I've gotten no response from the seller, I'm definitely not paying for it if the seller isn't going to try to work with me. I got it for a fairly low price $499. so if anyone wants a fairly cheap hardtop we might be able to work something out.
Ebay doesn't suck, it's a way to buy so many things so inexpensively.
You do need to know what you are bidding on and how it works. For the future, if bidding on an auction, use auctionsniper.com or something like that.
Just send the seller a message telling him your story and leave it at that. He will just relist the item or he can offer it to the next higher bidder for what they bid.
Ive worked on ebay for +15 years, buy and sell. Last week a guy bought, buy it now, a gas tank. After that he has never responded. ebay will close the transaction tomorrow, send him a non paying bidder warning.
PS was that you too?
I buy and sell on ebay, I have had sellers back out of things it happens.
For the most part buyers will explain the situation and you can agree not go through with the sale. For me as a seller its about closing it quickly so you dont pay the fees and getting it relisted!
Why does the seller needs to "work with you"? You bought it (regardless how or why), now honour the contract or take whatever eBay will throw at you for not playing......and don't complain either way.
Of course we are but why blame the seller if they don't want to work with you? This one is shaping up to become an "it's the seller's fault because he wouldn't reply to my I don't want to pay emails.". Everyone nowadays expects refunds on everything, regardless of the reason. We can thank large retailer like Walmart and such for this. Because of this, people think everything can be refunded even if it's a private sale.
Why not see if a local R-Lister is willing to go pick it up and maybe repost it for sale in So-Cal. Pay a commission for the local guy's time and effort and call it good?
I've received absolutely no response from the seller. I've looked into arranging transport but with no address it makes it hard to work out the specifics.
In your initial contact did you state your mistake?
If yes, he may be pissed and not want to bother with contact.
If no, It would be easy to turn it around as if you wanted to come pick it it and he wouldn't reply nullifying the sale in my mind.
I had two mistakes in quick succession once, one my fault another the step-brat got on my account.
End result, 7 day suspension. it didnt hurt one bit
It is the sellers fault IF he won't communicate with the buyer when the buyer is trying to resolve things.
Nothing can be resolved if both parties do not communicate.
The buyer it not trying to run away from the issue, he is trying to resolve it
At the end of the day, the buyer can just not pay, get a ding on his permanent record and get no real punishment. He is trying to do the right thing
