Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. Replaced my dampers which were original Porsche PASM and fitted the B4’s with PASM along with a DSC controller and the car is utterly transformed.

I ran standard ones after I fitted the M030 ones on my C4, much nicer, springs were fine on them.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Just as I spent a significant amount on brake refresh (discs/pads/997 GT3 master), I had the car looked at for a ugly knock over bumps/holes, and one of my ohlins dampers has shaft play.... No leak or anything, but there is play which can be felt when car is up in the air, rocking the wheel along the vertical axis. For now, I'm going to turn the volume up when driving in town, but this will need sorting.
Ohlin suggested some uk repair center which quoted 300+VAT to repair each damper. They're 10 years old, wouldn't i be better off going for a more soft setup like Billstein P8's with some eibach springs?
What would you do, is my question...
1. repair 1 damper and live with the rest hoping they won't go soon
2. replce the lot with P8's+eibach -30mm kit
3. ignore till it pops
options
B4 is like for like
B6 is sports
B8 is shorter and sports
softer ride, B4 is the an option
and the thicker ARB ensure you have better roll control, as opposed to using stiffer springs which have the unfortunate side effect of a harder ride
speak to someone like Centre of Gravity on options
I have a 997.2 Cabrio. Replaced my dampers which were original Porsche PASM and fitted the B4’s with PASM along with a DSC controller and the car is utterly transformed. For the better, I would add
Have you not previously serviced them in 10 years? Although I don't comply with the specified Ohlin service interval, the fronts in particular take a lot of 'abuse' and are likely to need attention every couple of years of road driving.
Adjusting each corner one click firmer might give you a bit more longevity/piece of mind while you consider options
Note: it'll take a few days for the adjustment to have an effect and it'll only reduce things (although it can be noticeably) rather than cure
Nope, I haven't. To be honest, in the 10 years, the car has seen about 11k miles in total, so not a whole lot - but certainly more in the last 3 when the knocking has happened. I hold my hands up for not servicing them sooner, but to be honest it's not a setup i would've chosen for a daily as it is really harsh.
ditch the Ohlins
get a softer set up that embraces the uk roads and gets you out in the car more
you can sell the set on so there is 'some' funds to make back
looks right but remember when you take your suspension apart, how much of the housing can be reused, as you might need various parts that form the suspension, or you might be fine i.e. bump stops, dust covers, top mounts

before you get into control arms, ball joints and drop links, but if they are fine then good
If you are using Ohlins you will need considerably more parts.
Design911 do a kit for all the mounting parts, plus you will need top mounts and bearings as well.

I would seriously consider the Koni special active dampers rather than the B4 dampers too.

If you do go for the B4, if you are using H&R springs you might find the spring is too lose under under load. Bilstein do an M030 and standard front damper, I would guess the m030 one is slightly shorter to account for the shorter springs on the M030 cars, so it isn't loose. But not 100% sure?
The rear M030 dampers are too firm imho. Nasty things.
I ran standard ones after I fitted the M030 ones on my C4, much nicer, springs were fine on them.
The B4 on the C4 front is the same damper m030 or not. I found it too soft if anything.
I see the Koni is now cheaper than the B4, absolute no brainer to go with them. Amazing ride and with the H&R springs works so well.
I have converted to RWD and used FWD uprights so I will be fitting those Konis myself shortly.
