Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Just got this home last night. I had pangs of guilt, because the '86 has been excellent company for 7 years. I took the '86 for a drive late in the evening, and they are relatives, but 18 years of evolution are at work.
I am blessed with two in the garage for a while.
Congrats on the new ride! Please let us know if we can assist with any part needs and don't forget to check out our 996 DIY tech articles for any maintenance or repairs in the future.

Congrats on the 911 40th! I've got one, too. Have you found our Registry owners group? The links are in my signature below. I've got a few items that I can send you from my records about your car that you might like. Shoot me an email and I'll send them to you.

PS - here's mine...Nr. 0711
Ted, I will email from home tomorrow. I would be interested in history with whatever you've got. I am scheduled for a "PPI" which in my case will mean a post-purchase inspection. Oil change, cut open the filter, check brake pads, and more. My independent is one of the LN certified installers, so that's available to me as needed or as preventative, depending upon results.
I am insured but I might find additional quotes for the insurance. I am open to recommendations there. My prior insurer was not interested in cars newer than 1999.
I confess that I am not yet used to all the power. I could wind out the '86 after a proper warm up, and was very comfortable with the delivery and known pace. There is a world of difference in the newer car. Passing in third gear is overkill, despite the fact that the car seems too quiet for the rpm involved.
What a car!
I am going to post the '86 for sale when the weather breaks.
I am in Kennebec county, inaminit.
There was a moment yesterday morning, for about two hours, where I might have taken something out for a drive. Then things iced over again.
Hey I have a question or two. I like tweaking things, but the 40th AE has lots of goodies to start with. As the car came from the factory with the X51 bits, what is left to do if I am feeling restless?
It seems that exhaust and header parts would be a sideways move?
What about the intake plenum?
I don't want to lower the car, but are suspension parts an actual upgrade if I am not intending to track the car?
Or should I just leave a nice condition car intact, and drive it as manufactured?
Just checking back with you - I may have missed your email so please send (or resend) it when you have some time. Many thanks, and I hope that you're enjoying the car now that summer is here!

Email sent. The '86 sold in under 48 hours on PCA classifieds.
The '04 911 AE is a blast.
I am looking forward to the fact that a friend locally just bought an '04 C4S, and it should arrive here in Maine shortly. Can do a local cars and coffee, and argue the merits of some of the accessible back roads.
Congratulations. I recently sold my '85 carrera coupe and purchased a '03 Targa with X51. Had my '85 for 17yrs. The difference is night and day.
Recently cleaned front radiators, replaced oil pressure sender, new battery and had ims, aos, clutch and rms done at independent 996 specialist. Going to enjoy this summer, with top open and air on.😎
Congrats - the 40th Ann. is a keeper. Great looking - lots of extra options and a limited run.
Like you, and others here, I too just sold my long time 1985 Targa. I bought a 2006 C2S manual coupe with factory short shift, great car. Highly recommend the short shift!
I'm feeling the same as others here I suspect - I will always love the air cooled 911, but times have changed in that market. Time to move on - better to drive a Porsche than show a Porsche IMO!
Congrats on the 40th. I am beyond satisfied with mine as well. As far as mods:
Exhaust (US 40th's come with the standard exhaust so upgrade to sport is worth it)
Semi Solid Engine Mounts - Completely changes driving experience
Suspension Kit - Springs/Coilovers/shocks etc. Performance and looks upgrade.
997 Short Shifter
That package alone right there should satisfy the mod bug for a little while.
ENJOY!
